“18th and Potomac and “Two Cathedrals” are the final two episodes of Season 2. Some of the best television I’ve watched.

This

The season 1 finale and the first episode of season 2 is great as well. I would give it until at least then before making a decision to continue or not.

Because the Trump cult is totally sane.

Trump is:

Moderate on abortion, moderate on gun rights, moderate on tax rates, moderate on social safety nets, certainly not conservative on foreign policy, moderate on most LGBT issues, he's practically an MMT guy on spending...

His immigration positions, perhaps his most "hardline" stance - is a default position of Democratic senators from 15 years ago.

ETA: Sorry, I didn't realize this was M/TV. Above still true, though. Tied back to West Wing and Hoynes - it probably wouldn't be hard to find (D) candidates from 15-20 years ago that were solidly to the right of Trump on many core issues.

It’s one of those shows that I think really requires either a belief or a memory of DC and the Presidency as a place and position that once commanded and deserve respect, a station that actually did its job making policy and not just waging culture wars. I love West Wing and even I find it difficult to watch now, not because it’s a bad show but because we are so far removed from the ethos it was built on that it kind of hurts to try to go back and sit with.

You said it much better than me, but i think that this pretty much explains why I had to step away from the show

My ex wife and I loved the show when it first aired. Both Republican and conservative but enjoyed how the show never slammed either side. Bartlett was this "liberal" politician but not like today. It had moderate views on everything and it has aged well.

Many of the topics they handle 25+ years ago are still being discussed in politics arenas today. I felt the cast was perfect. Sheen was great at Bartlett and Bradley Whitford was perfectly cast as Josh.

I think that’s why I like it so much. It reminds me that we (America) were once able to REALLY work together on a political level. I consider myself more right leaning than left, but there are a lot of issues that WW addresses that I agree with or can at least see the appeal of the left’s opinion.

It gives me hope that somehow we can return to times like that, although I’m not sure what the path is. I just started another rewatch- it makes me laugh about how rudimentary the sets were compared to the later seasons. First 3-4 seasons are top notch acting and script writing. Simply timeless to me.
