MNight is worth 50 million and owns his own production company.

then made Gigli and Hollywood said "frick YOU" and that guy has never worked again.
That's because Gigli cost $75M to make and only earned $7M box office.

On the other hand, every single movie MNight has made has turned a profit.

He sucks but he makes money.

Previous 3 films

The Happening
Budget: $48M
Box office: $163M

The Last Airbender
Budget: $150M
Box office: $319M

Devil
Budget: $10M
Box office: $63M

Shammy ain't going anywhere people.

He didn't direct Devil I believe he either wrote it or produced it. I really enjoyed his first 3 movies.

Don't know why so much blame is on Shyamalan. This is much more Will's frick up than his. Story by Will Smith. Casting by Will Smith. Produced by Will, Jada, Jada's brother, and Will's friend.

M.Night directed the shite but I'm sure he took marching orders so he could get the check.

Still his movie. He could have said no. If the movie sucks then it's his failure. What I wonder is how Shyamalan even got the job. Was that really the best that Smith and the producers could come up with? Was it because there was the caveat of having Smith writing some of it and his son staring in it.

the days of will smith auto opening a movie are over.

even johnny depp has had some problems recently with the tourist and dark shadows. i could see lone ranger having a similar fate to after earth.

While the story idea was Will's, the screenplay itself was written by Shyamalan and another guy. And of course, Night directed it also. I haven't seen the flick, but all of the reviews point to the dialogue and pacing as huge problems, and those are things Shyamalan was directly involved in.

If you took the general idea of "father and son become separated in futuristic, destroyed Earth" and gave it to someone like JJ Abrams, I think a MUCH better film would have resulted. I'm a sucker for father/son movies (fricking "Frequency" gets me every time) but the trailers for this thing just looked turrable.

If you would have told me in the mid 90s that the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air would go on to be a rich and famous actor I wouldn't have bought it.
