Levine should have won an Academy Award for Buffalo Bill instead of Anthony Hopkins. There I said it.
Levine did a lot with his roughly 10 minutes of screen time, but I don't think he outdid the 16 minutes of screen time Hopkins had, and to win an
Academy Award for such a short run time is incredible.

Agree. Bill was definitely a more realistic character. That made him so much more terrifying
Hannibal Lecter is basically the romanticized version of how society views serial killers. He’s cunning, manipulative, and charming all at the same time. Very elegant about cleanliness and extremely articulate.
Meanwhile, Buffalo Bill is the realistic version of what serial killers are actually like. He’s anti-social, dirty, and doesn’t have any charm at all. He’s a lone-wolf predator who acts on instinct, like a tiger who kills whatever prey it sees.

It's a shame this wasn't used for the end credits song.

This is good analysis. There have only been a small handful of Lecter types and far more Bill types.
