Was Sopranos more of a political show than Game of Thrones?

Jumping around re-watching old Sopranos clips. There are many political undercurrents, If not more than, at least the equal of GOT I think.

I heard if you watch "Fun house" backwards, it says "Vote for Trump".

I think after 9/11 the show got more political. Tony passing info about possible terrorists to the FBI and the Columbus Day protests. Alot of the male characters on the show seemed to be Conservative.

I remember seeing somewhere that game of thrones was likened to the sopranos set in middle earth. having read the books, I thought it was a pretty apt comparison and told my friends that to get them to watch.

I never found The Sopranos to be a political series.

I am talking about the politics of the characters interacting with each other, not American / government political events.

Tony dealing with NY, his family, etc.

Well - yeah. Every drama with a plot to tell is going to have political angling.

That being said, Sopranos is nowhere on GoT's level in this regard. GoT is a sprawling epic with upwards of a hundred characters vying for power.

Sopranos has that on a much more limited scale. Sopranos also relies on Tony's POV in every episode.

I mean look at the final season - Brooklyn is in full-out war with itself, and eventually Jersey. It takes place, until the final two episodes at least, in the complete background of Tony completely breaking down as a person.

GOT is war and politics

Sopranos isn't even close to GOT on politics

Supposedly GOT was inspired by the War of the Roses, which was obviously war and politics, although I don't see a close connection.

Except for the Columbus Day episode, which apparently everyone hated except me.

I liked the brief chat between Paulie and Christopher about the Cuban Missile Crisis on the Pine Barrens episode.

It was based on the Accursed Kings series of books by Maurice Druon. I think Martin even wrote the introduction to the newest edition of the first book of the series and admitted they were what inspired the GOT story.

Just googled that series. Sounds like something I'd love.

I'm almost finished with the first book (The Iron King) and it's very good. Definitely one of the best historical novels I've ever read.

Tony's speech to Silvio on the way back from the casino is classic.

...

Sil - He died.
