Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller is the latest DC Comics character getting the small screen treatment.

Deadline understands that HBO Max is developing a Peacemaker and Suicide Squad spinoff series featuring the supervillain with Davis in talks to star and exec produce.

Watchmen writer Christal Henry will write and exec produce the potential series, which comes from Warner Bros. TV

It comes after Deadline revealed that James Gunn, who will exec produce the project, was working on a second Suicide Squad spinoff series. He told us in January that it was “connected to this universe” but “won’t be as much a comedy as Peacemaker.”

She's an excellent actress, but I almost feel bad for her. She has shoulders like a linebacker.

Peacemaker isn't a supervillain and, if anything, Viola Davis is too thin to play Waller. But she does fine with what they give her for the role.

It was a poorly written statement but I believe they were saying Waller is a supervillain, not Peacemaker

I believe you are correct.

I didn't watch the Watchmen TV show, but I heard it was awful. Guess maybe I should check it out to see if this will be worth watching.

Watchmen sucked

Peacemaker was fun if you can look past the white supremacy nonsense

A spinoff of a spinoff of a remake. How deep can the rabbit hole go?

Can’t imagine many do.

Viola Davis is a phenomenal actress but Waller has been a poorly written character in every Suicide Squad iteration to put it lightly.

I mean The second suicide squad ends with them hitting her on the head doesn’t it?

That didn't bother me, as that part wasn't nuanced or suggestive at all. White Dragon was straight up a racist a-hole, with plenty of other despicable traits. Despite all that, Peacemaker tried to deal with him as best he could, since he was his father.

Isn't she basically the corporate, power-hungry semi-villainous establishment overlord who sends the "heroes" to their death all the time?

How the hell does this character warrant sympathy, much less and entire show?

it wasn't nonsense

White dragon is a legit DC character and some would consider him an a-hole. Good people on all sides. But it added to the story, explained some shite and made for a really fun Vigilante prison scene.

She’s not a supervillain either. She’s a G. Gordon Liddy or an Ollie North. A government functionary who thinks that laws are secondary to national security.

I don’t find her that interesting of a character. And a Suicide Squad show should have plenty comedy.

Waller was a great character in JLU but DC just can't seem to get a handle on her for live action.
