Just watched the episode.
Ragnar
All the stuff they did to him leading up to it was so undignified. Hard to watch the great King Ragnar go through that.

It started a long time ago... Ragnar the junkie, Ragnar getting his arse kicked by the frogs, Ragnar disappearing for 10 years, Ragnar's own people spitting on him when he came back, Ragnar attempting suicide, Ragnar digging up his treasure to bribe the very people who spit on him and shunned him, etc. He hadn't been "king" in a long time.
However, it was by killing those mercenaries and allowing himself to be captured, tortured, and killed in order to further vengeance against Ecbert that he regained some of his Viking honor. This episode wasn't tragic for Ragnar; it represented redemption. I was mightily impressed with how he handled himself. Dying alone in a pit of snakes while your enemies jeer you from above has to be pretty rough. He didn't even have the gods and dreams of Valhalla to find solace in. All he had was his desire for vengeance and to dream of his sons finding glory in carrying it out.

I will say, that while it'll be sad to see him go the show has done a good job of tearing him down as a character to soften the blow so to speak. I think I'd be more upset if a Ragnar in his prime went down on the show.
Agreed. At this point I'm ok with it and kinda welcomed it. Not when he was in his prime though. As long as the sons can carry the show.

I'm far more excited about Rollo being back in Viking-esque action.
frick Rollo, he's a POS. I haven't liked him nearly the entire series. I know he's not really Ragnar's brother but for this show he's a complete shitbag.

I now think Death by snake bite might not be that bad.
Watch the water moccasin scene in Lonesome Dove and then let me know if you still agree.
Granted it may be better and quicker than many other ways that they could have used, but it is not just a few pinpricks and then falling asleep.

Just watched the last five episodes. Really enjoyed them.
Btw, I didn't watch season one and maybe part of season two. Pretty sure I've caught up what I need. Didn't understand all of that with the kids.

Possible spoiler...Though not really
The actor that plays him is still signed on. Probably flashbacks.

Not sure how much draw there is for me to watch this show minus Ragnar.

Someone refresh my memory on the Oldin (sp) guy? Is he the old man they all talk to about their future?
Posted on 1/2/17 at 11:59 am to Flamefighter
Odin is a Viking God. Basically the equivalent of Zeus.
The guy you're talking about is the Seer. He's supposed to be a vehicle for the Norse Gods and because of his connection can supposedly see the future.

Would be pretty hypocritical if he did

This is getting awesome. I was hoping they'd go to Spain, lotta possibilities with the Moors. Plus, Rollo can keep his good standing in France.

Well since Odin is real. Was Harbard actually one of Odin's disguises?

Harbard according to one of Ragnar's tales (in the show) is that Harbard was a ship captain that transported Odin to the other side of dry land. But I think even in this story he alluded to them being the same person or some shite.
