Did y'all notice he was played by that guy from The Tudors? Jonathan Rhys Meyers or whatever his name is.

The guy didn't seem like he was in England during the scene
He was in Sherborne, England. He's the Bishop of Sherborne, Heahmund.

What is this Cornwell book you all speak of
An English writer named Bernard Cornwell has written several series of historical fiction books. They deal primarily with military situations and battles in different periods of history. They are usually told through the viewpoint of someone below the major players like Alfred, Ivar, etc.
The series that is the most relevant to Vikings is called Saxon Stories or The Warrior's Chronicles. The main character is a guy named Uthred of Bebbanburg who was born a Saxxon nobleman but captured and adopted by the Danes when he was young. The first book is The Last Kingdom. Netflix made a series on it and the first season was good (I like the book better but the series is solid). 2nd season should be in production I think.

Thanks for the correction. Any one know about this characters relation Vikings history? He must be important to be not just a Bishop but to also have a Sword of that quality and detail. Not to mention it's the Bishop's personal steel. No other clergy in the show until the finale has ever had a weapon (athelstan doesn't count) and this dude looks like he's a seasoned vet on the field. It'll be interesting to see how this shite plays out.
FTR: I'm loving Ivar's character. Last night got cheesy hollywood moment last night after he killed the brother (and part of his lead up speech) but dude is considered by many to be the absolute most brutal and successful Viking of the Ragnar tree and Viking history in general. We haven't seen shite yet. He just turned on the oven to preheat. We witnessed the genesis of his rampage against the world. Prepare for the world to burn, and everyone in it

Oh, I noticed.
So finally all caught up. Thought it was a solid season finale. My thoughts:
- I'm still upset how Helga went out. For all the shite she's been through with Loki, I hate that she goes down by her recently acquired "daughter" going full on murder-suicide. I wasn't a fan of that particular storyline at all. Obviously something had to give with Loki's storyline but damn. I didn't mind the parallels to Loki taking Athelstan's life in Kattegat with Athlestan's hometown stealing what was left of Loki's life.
- Knew some shite was eventually going to go down with Sigurd and Ivar but that caught me off guard. Holy shite.
- I don't mind the overacting of the actor playing Ivar. He's supposed to be an obnxious, power hungry frick with no conscience. It works for me.
- I do mind the overacting by Bjorn's actor as of late. He's a bit much when he's all ranty and puffing up his chest. I do look forward to him heading back to the Mediterranean.
- I'm glad Ecbert didn't get blood eagled. Yeah, he did some despicable shite but at the same time he had to look out for his legacy and I think he truly had an attachment to Ragnar.
- Ecbert crowning his son king before granting those lands to Bjorn and Co. will absolutely come back to bite them in the arse.
- Per IMDB, Jonathan Rhys Meyers is playing Bishop Heahmund (as already posted). He was actually venerated as a Saint. I was hoping he'd be an aged up Alfred but he's a sexy beast and I don't care how I get him at this point.
ETA: Yes, I know it's Floki.

I think they used Ecbert instead of Aella when granting the Vikings land. They did receive land from Aella in the actual heven invasion history but we didn't see them obtain any land from Aella so I think they (directors) decided to use Ecbert for the land transfer. Although Ecbert handing out land did raise my eyebrow so I'm just guessing.

You've watched like 100 episodes of this show and you think the characters name is Loki???
