Traveling for work and thinking about it tonight. I’m from west Texas so identified with a lot of the trailer.

Reading reviews now.

I’m not overly keen on going to a movie making fun of my tribe, if it’s not done in a friendly light TBH.

I don't think it's making fun of Jewish people.

B.J. Novak said that he wanted to make a film that would be every Texan's favorite film. I think it is going to be great.

Was it you that posted the Texas Monthly article? It was pretty interesting. He said he didn’t want to do the Hell or Highwater cartoon Texas; so instead of going to a rustic cafe they just go to Whataburger. I’ll check it out.

No but that is what I am basing this off of and I sort of believe in him to make a decent film based off of that little clip of asking if they were fans of the Longhorns instead of Tech.

I watched it today, and actually really quite liked it…except for the ending. Still worth a watch though.

One of the negative reviews said the movie was 'too conservative" for his liking, so its probably pretty good

I ended up seeing NOPE instead just because the next showing was at 11:00 for this, but I’m traveling again this week so I’m going to try and catch it.

Watched it this past weekend and thought it was pretty good. I wasn't a big fan of the ending but overall it was enjoyable. I would probably recommend most people wait until it's around $5 versus $20. We needed a good distraction and this worked well.

Finally watched it on Peacock.

I’ve wanted to see it since I saw the trailer. I was somewhat hesitant, however, because I’m from West Texas and as I said earlier in this thread, and I’m always a bit worried about how my people are represented on film. Probably similar to Cajuns I presume.

I appreciated the majority of the movie. The scenes from the rodeo to the end of the Whataburger parking lot captured a lot of my upbringing in West Texas. Yes they are a kind folk and come pick you up from the hospital but also will give you shite when you start shite for something as ridiculous as liking another school was captured well.

Ashton Kutcher and the mom’s character probably both encapsulated what a lot of life out there is like. The Whataburger parking lot scene let me know that Novack got it.

“Big city people think this negative stereotype about you.”

“Well none of those big city people would have come and picked you up from the hospital and got you a meal.”

Good writing in that spot.

It’s bleak at times and seems like an unkind and unforgiving terrain but it can also be the most beautiful sunset you’ve ever seen surrounded by the kindest people you’ve ever met.

Ending was abrupt and not where I thought it was headed. I’m fairly mixed on it, but glad I watched.

Granted I didn’t have any expectations going in, but personally I absolutely loved it. I found it hysterical and thought it was pretty even-keeled about making fun of everyone, big city and rural folks. The Whataburger parts killed me

I actually thought Kutcher’s character was pretty good and some of his ramblings about how events unfold were pretty interesting
