Even in Requiem for a Dream, American Psycho, Lord of War, Prefontaine? People hate him for Morbius and Suicide Squad but that was bad writing.
Maybe it is because the newest of those is 20 years old? I honestly haven't watched three of those in at least a decade. In American Psycho, he shared the screen with Bale, so perhaps (in my mind) he was just overshadowed.

I just don't get the Leto love
He killed it in Lord of War, Requiem for a dream, Girl Interrupted, Fight Club, Urban Legend, American Psycho, My So Called Life, and so many others.
Plus early 30 seconds to mars were great. North Louisiana baw

Agree, Helund is a very good actor but he’s not charismatic and couldn’t carry that film. It had the advantage of Wilde and Bridges doing the heavy lifting. Leto is alot like that, he can be great in certain roles like Sparma in The Little Things where he’s perfectly cast but as a hero he doesn’t posses much gravitas. I’m still hopeful for this movie though.

This looks more and more like it’ll be closer to the 1982 film, cinematography-wise
Which would fit since it seems to be a mirror image of the original (humans get pulled into the computer world/computer world residents escape into human world).
And did I see that right in the trailer that the light cycle could turn the light trail on and off?

Why wasn’t Garrett Hedlund brought back for this?

Yup.
I still wouldn’t put it past Disney to frick up their own sagas. It’s a completely different company now compared to what it was in 2009-2010 when they produced Tron: Legacy. Not getting my hopes up with this one. It definitely won’t have the same stylistic sauce that Legacy had.
And let’s be honest: most people don’t watch the Tron films to see a character study or groundbreaking plot. They watch them for the visual effects. The 2010 film was incredible in the way it was shot. It’s one of the rare examples of a film that’s 98% CGI and is still enjoyable to watch.
