now the mockery coming from the "enlightened" artists? that is cliche
Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the two new street artists they introduced. The girl is alright, but the guy is a douche and has a terrible voice.
Aside from that, I enjoyed the episode. I like all of the gigs/music they show.

I liked the show tonight. I think it's starting to show some promise. The Indian Chief storyline alone is enough to keep me coming back.

Albert holding it down for his indian crew and beating a kid to death for stealing. Davis and his "i dont give a frick" attitude. Antoine and his baby mamas. and of course the music

A few observations
-"No man is a hero to his butler." I think almost any show about a city that you know well is going to have some extra false notes, because you will feel the local references are gimmicky. I felt that way about the hot sauce on her eggs before she starts crying.
-Simon starts out slow. He builds a foundation. There is nothing fun about tons of concrete, but it will probably support this series.
-The national critics said it didn't pop until the third show. I believe them.
-Whether it is great or shite, it is just too early to tell. When someone says, "I don't see what conflicts will keep me interested," that is because you don't know, what you don't know.
-The second show was "better," than the first. The third has been touted by those who have seen it. Simon is money. The trend is encouraging.

At least it wasn't Tabasco!

i think they had tobasco in ep 1
*ETA: i had similar thoughts about the hot sauce (esp since i believe hot sauce usage has been in both eps), but i didn't want to hear people bitch and tell me how i don't understand nola

Hmmm . . . my wife put hot sauce on her eggs yesterday when we were eating breakfast at home. Should I tell her it's too cliche' and we have to do a rewrite?

I guess I need to rewrite my breakfast too. Not only do I frequently put hot sauce on my eggs, I use Tabasco! The Horror!!!!
***So far the best "gimmicky New Orleans" cliche has been the Hubig's pies. That one was awesome (even better with some Tabasco on it

there was also "voodoo," but it was handled like bourbon, with mockery (for the most part)

I really like the Mardi Gras Indian character and his family. I think his story is very interesting and I like that he doesn't bitch and moan when things don't go his way. He just takes care of it himself.
I did like that they mocked Bourbon (Most outsiders think that is what NOLA is) though I think if Zahn would have sent them to Frenchman then it would have been a little more approriate. I also think Zahn's character has a lot of potential.

That was one scene I thought was a little weird.
1. The thief was semi-polite to the Indian when he was caught. "Oh this is your place..."
2. The thief actually stood there and had a conversation with him instead of just running away.
3. The thief not being armed with something seemed a little weird but I did like the fact that he gave him a chance to explain himself before he beat the shite out of him.
BTW, I think he did kill that kid. I'm pretty sure he hit him over the head with a pipe...

i thought he hit him in the back with the pipe. i mean it was kind of dark so i dont really know.

Maybe so. If he didn't kill him, he eff'd him up pretty bad... He definitely took out some rage on that dude.

im hoping he isnt dead and comes back for some revenge.

this storyline has the 2nd most potential, to me, behind the restaurant owner. i just can't shake the thoughts that the restaurant owner story has potential (i think mainly b/c it deals with a person who isn't just jacking herself off like a bunch of the other characters. the indian is also trying to be proactive, so he gets a nod)
