Yeah, I mean the Phantom Menace trailer had Darth Maul and a double-sided lightsaber, which seemed so badass at the time. It wasn't until we saw the movie that we realized Darth Maul was pointless.

I just thought The Cartoon Menace was a bad film until I saw Send in the Clones.

So Many people will be disappointed -- not because the movie will be bad but because of the absolutely unreal expectations most people have going into it.

Expecting it to be better than I-III really isn't all that unrealistic.

You say that, but the phantom menace had an awesome trailer...how could you frick up Star Wars. C'est impossible

I actually think all three of those movies could have been much better had Lucas not been the director. His inability to get anything out of the actors and his crew's inability to tell him "NO MOTHER frickER" cut those film's knees out.

It's not unlike how Peter Jackson has needed a hard slap to the face ever since he decided the dino stampede in King Kong should be kept.

I consider myself a pretty big fan and occasional reader. The only thing I am really interested in seeing is Luke crushing everything with powers greater than anybody who has come before. If he cant stomp out the dude from Girls with relative ease, the entire series makes no sense.

If they kill off Luke for some cheap plot twist I would be extremely dissappointed. He is one of the greatest characters ever created in all mediums of entertainment. Leave that to George Martin please.

Not a Star Wars fanboy but probably would have given it a look if anyone other than JJ Abrams had been in charge
Yep, but the Abrams dick riders will point out that he just wasn't into Star Trek, which is why those movies sucked.

it's pretty clear it will be 100x better than the prequels which is all anyone can really ask for.

Why people hate on the prequels? or 1,2,3 whatever you want to call them

This trailer looked pretty badass too. LINK

That said, this will be great.

Sadly, that was the most authentically acted scene in the entire prequel "trilogy".

Lucas should be whipped with a knotted plow line for those monstrosities.

TPM is the ultimate "what could have been great", the next two were doomed no matter what. It would've been digital, though not as boring...but the aesthetic would've been wrong. I shamefully admit to owning the phantom menace and giving it a go about once a year. Somewhere in there is the star wars we all loved...very tiny bits and pieces...nothing substantive. There's nothing star wars about the other two. They're really deserving of everything said about them no matter how outlandish.

I think I enjoyed every movie I had ever watchd up to the point I bought TPM on VHS. I went to a midnight showing after work so I didn't really see the bad in theaters...I popped it in, and every other line was cringe inducing and made no sense. first it was trying to figure out qui gonn's bet, then the attack on the palace is where I really started noticing the dialogue, then on second viewing everything sucked.

but I still feel it's the best, and I get a little bit depressed, but my craving for more star wars is somewhat served (though not to a satisfying level)

I get absolutely nothing out of the next two...nothing

I will say the ironic thing is the prequels look so dated because of the crappy digital effects, and yet lucas was jerking off the whole time about how he could finally make star wars look how it was supposed to look.

seriously, not just because I hate the aesthetic...the last two movies look like complete shite

Considering what it cost and what people were expecting, Send in the Clones might be the worst film of all time.

Without considering those things I believe it's the worst feature length movie of all time. Considering those things just makes it so much worse

I haven't really enjoyed anything of his, but having seen those Movies I didn't like, made me feel he was perfectly tailored for this movie.

I went from super low to super high, and right now my expectations are nothing, but it will be great hearing that music and that there's at least an opportunity for Star Wars to be great again

I think they've nailed the look, but you still need a good script, and good performances

no negativity here. I'm at even, trending excited. Trailer looks good. I am excited for the new cast. I have tickets...what else do you want

I only caution that "can't be worse than the prequels" is a dangerous mindset sure it can be worse (Safe bet it will be much better) and if you don't think it can be, you're in for a repeat of that sick feeling you had over 15 years ago when you saw the phantom menace

There's nothing that has me trepidatious, quite the opposite. I caution against unbridled enthusiasm.
