somebody in another thread said Dexter approached being as good as the Wire.

I have seen a LOT of tv series and think Dexter is as good as any, but I have not seen the wire.

What is The Wire and do most others agree it's as good as Dexter?

The last couple of weeks, I went through my entire Box set for all five seasons. Reminded me of just how incredible The Wire is.

Great writing, great performances, terrific characters.

You have no idea. The only flaw I can find in The Wire is that it is so good it makes other good shows look like shite in comparison

As good as Dexter is, the Wire is better. That's pretty much the consensus view.

I'm mid-way through the third season and it's the best series I've seen, and I've seen all the HBO series, etc. The worst part about the show so far is Tom Waits singing the opening theme in season two, but you can fast forward through that.

Season 5's version was my favorite. Walon sings it.

Is the actor that plays Walon that fidgety in real life? He's always moving around.

Andre Royo does the best junkie portrayal ever as Bubbles. And the breakdown scene when Walon tries to console him in detox is powerful.

It kinda sucks knowing I've probably already seen the best TV show ever. Although rewatching it is great too.

Wow if you think Dexter is great then you'll redefine the word "great" once you watch The Wire.

The Wire >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dexter

Dexter is a good show but there are maybe 3-5 shows that you can say approach being as good as the Wire and Dexter isn't even all that close to them.

This.

I still can't believe that I waited till last year to watch it. Dexter is really good, but The Wire is basically as close to perfection as you can get.

I know he wrote the song, it's a good song. But I can't get past his affected, fake "singing". He has a nice voice and I don't know why he never seems to use it.

any show would be hard pressed to approach the wire's greatness. it's as addicting as the drugs it's centered on. i've never seen dexter. for some reason i have a feeling it will be "fake." the wire seemed pretty realistic and showed all angles.

Dexter admires The Wire from afar wishing it could be as good.
