S2 is hard for a lot to wrap their heads around because it was such a dramatic shift. Being focused more on the dock workers than the drug dealing in the pit was too much of a change for some and S2 is underrated because of that.

S4 is my favorite. The storyline with the kids and Bunny Colvin trying to civilize them is awesome.

S3 and s4 is some of the best television ever made.

S2 gets better and better every rewatch. It all ties into everything so well.

But if you only watched the first 7 episodes of the wire or the first 7 episodes of the tlou, tlou would be far more entertaining.

I think that by the time you're in your 3rd watch of The Wire, Season 2 becomes the best season, overall. Boris, the Greek, Bunk and Lester interrogating the crew who can't speak English, McNulty going way, way out of his way to stick Rawls with the homicides, just full of great moments.

The payoff for the wire with me was that every season kinda chronicles how one facet of society deals with or has an effect on the drug trade itself.

Season 1 - the cops
Season 2- the traffickers
Season 3- the politicians
Season 4 - education
Season 5- journalism

Although there's a lot of overlap and recurring characters this is basically it.

I would tell you to stick with it OP. Seasons of shows were longer back in the day as well but like someone said the first 6-7 episodes of each season are kinda 'set up' but they definitely pick up.

The Wire is consistently ranked as the greatest TV show of all time and especially of the 21st century.
If it's ranked so high, why isn't it good?

It made me wonder what happened to this country. A TV show where 85% of the characters are black. 2 of the main cast are black AND gay. Yet there is zero woke bullshite to it. Why can't modern writers come close to that level?

Idk if it’s me or the show, but I’m 7 episodes into the first season and I find it to be very boring and slow paced.

Look

If you don’t like it after 7 episodes, it’s not for you. After the first 5 you should be enjoying it

Its a good show but its not gonna amaze you in any way. Theres better stuff out there. The wire is very good at what it does, but its still just a crime/legal soap opera with a more serious tone

Got a friend who was in the newspaper business for a long time - local papers in around Alabama, then bought some in Texas and other places. Thinks season 5 is the best.

Got a friend who was a teacher in some hard public schools for a long time. Thinks season 4 is the best.

Got a friend who's been in marketing for a bit and spent some time with a city political campaign in a big city in the South. Thinks season 3 was the best.

I can see season 2 being the best, but I always go back to season 1, esp the opening scene - "got to - it's America, man".

To each their own, but I don't see how people think it's boring.
