so what was the most reasonable (for GOT's) explanation of the WW getting those long arse chains?

The Giants had chains on the mammoths when they attacked the Wall. It’s not too crazy to think they had some longer chains too.

I bet wildlings at some point snuck up and cut down a bunch of those giant scythes at the abandoned castles.

Same big arse chains.

And in the books, after one intital attacks on the rangers it said the dead were gathering all of the iron and steel they could get their hands on.

They missed an opportunity when they didn't get Chuck Norris to play one of these things.

Didn't the seal "break" after Bran passed through again after he was touched by the Night King?

That was a theory but I don't know how much a I buy into that. Why would Bran do that knowingly?

I agree that Bran broke the seal but I think he did it unknowingly because he was not fully trained to be the three eyed raven.

The Night King could not enter the three eyed raven's den/tree until he touched Bran. After Uncle Benjen saved him he asked him to come back South of the wall and Benjen said he couldn't because of magic. Bran didn't understand that. Bran crossed the wall and since he was touched by the Night King he unwittingly broke the magic that kept the Night King North of the wall. It's all Bran's fault IMHO.

It's not clear why they even needed to pull up the dragon. Some wights had to go into the water to connect the chains, so they were able to function underwater. The night king has been able to animate humans without touching them. Maybe dragons are different for some reason, or the night king can't reanimate something immersed in water. Maybe the dead just sink. It may not mean anything significant at all.

That scene was probably designed to “look cool” and we’re giving it more thought than the show runners did.

The WW don’t have a problem with water itself, they have a problem with SALTWATER. That’s what the Wall is made of, FYI. The books even go so far as to describe the slight melting it does on sunny days as “weeping” because the water is salty.

In old stories salt had a purifying, warding effect against evil. I’d guess that this plays into the Wall’s powers. Perhaps it extends to all magic in general in ASOIAF.
