Sansa:
quote:

Bran has no interest in ruling, and he can't father children

Tyrion:
quote:

Good! Sons of kings and queens can be cruel and stupid, as you well know. This will never torment us. That is the wheel our queen wanted to break. From now on rulers will not be born - they will be chosen.

Dany's father was the "mad king" then she turned mad. Other kings and queens gave birth to terrible rulers. Bran couldn't have children. What better way to honor the innocents killed by the offspring of the Mad King in King's Landing than by making Bran, unable to have children, King?

To those complaining that Bran became king - THAT is why. The finale showed that they were tired of cruelty and war. They were tired to the point they felt they had to make a change and the change they made breaks the wheel their once-adored queen wanted to break - the wheel of captivity and cruelty.

Beautiful symbolism.

If bran actually did anything besides sit in his wheelchair and just stare at people I wouldn’t mind that he became king

And what happens when they pick someone and they’re like you know what frick all this and then form an alliance with two other realms. Or when it’s time to elect a new king and the realms ratchet up the game of thrones 10 notches to get their guy elected.

I mean, we frequently elect leaders that most of us think are trash.

There is no permanent solution. You can't hold that against the show.

Kings and Queens can be mad and capricious rulers!

While I am a big fan of Democracy... I humbly submit to you that people across the globe have voted for mad men.

An elected king being mad though? Surely they will pick only the best candidate!

Horse shite. Poland elected their Kings. Yeah, they came up with a good one in John Sobieski, the man who saved Europe from the Turks.

They also elected a ton of crappy kings who eventually steered the country to where they were carved up by their neighbors and disappeared for a couple of centuries.

Bran is a turd. We can try and polish that turd to make it a better looking turd... but he's a turd.

An election is just about the worst idea they could have come up with.

This is a kingdom that has a serious problem with corruption, lawlessness, and political violence.

An elective system makes assassination more likely, and you’d see serious uncertainty whenever a king died. Will the factions abide by the results? Or will they go to war to take what they want?

Odds are, they won’t accept the results of an election. Why should they? On a personal level, it’s probably a plotters only chance to be king. And as families, they may not have another chance for twenty or more years. They stand to lose, a lot.

A hereditary system would be more stable, most of the time.

The last 3ER said he (assuming the entity not Bloodraven) lived for 1000 years. Bran is going to outlive everyone by a good bit.

The only thing Bran did was drop Arya from ravens onto the NK.

Considering she thought the throne was her birthright as the Mad King's only living heir (before she knew Jon was), this is just demonstrably false.
