I was not tracking this and it looks and sounds pretty interesting:

Part of me feels like he'd be great for something over the top like a Bret Easton Ellis adaptation.
At the same time, he can absolutely be BIG hit or miss on his content.

I find him to not really have much "hit" at all (caveat: I never watched Nip/Tuck).
American Horror Story Should be a fantastic series, but it's just not. It always seems so promising and then just falls totally to shite. Also, I had no idea they were still cranking out seasons of that (I see that S13 comes out next month). Crazy that people still watch those.
Great use of Sly Fox Let's Go All the Way in that trailer though.

I think the larger issue is the longer a show runs for him, it really really falls off. But he is capable of having some really good singular seasons/miniseries.
Glee was definitely a hit (even though like a lot of his other shows, it dropped off in later seasons).
Season 1 of American Horror Story was really, really good. Early seasons of Nip/Tuck were really good as well. But both had some really atrocious later seasons.
His Feud season on Capote vs. The Swans was good but we're talking about a miniseries/anthology season (which I think he is much better at).
So, like I said BIG hit or miss on the content. It can either be really good or really shite. My hope for the OP would be if he's covering a book and it's limited to the scope of the book then it could end up being good. And with the way Bret Easton Ellis writes, it could fit Murphy's tendency to go over the top.

They seem to just always go off the rails to the point that I wonder if they are being writing them on the fly. Some seasons I just enjoy the ride others I just cant.

The first one I watched was Coven because a buddy of mine had a small role in it. And when I was about 2/3 through the season, I finally bailed on it because it was just so, so bad. And at the time people in the thread told me to check out S1 because it was awesome. So I did. And it was...just okay. It was certainly better than Coven, but not very good (for me).
But I watched Freak Show because the subject matter seemed cool to me (and I loved Carnivale on HBO). And it was a pretty good season for a while, and then it just went completely off the rails stupid with the Dandy shite. But I did finish it out.
I gave Hotel a shot and think I made it through most or even all of that one, and it just wasn't very good and got worse as the season went on.
And so I gave up after 3.5 seasons because it just wasn't very good and wasn't worth my time anymore considering the other good stuff out there to watch.

Im pretty sure he is technically bi. But other than this caveat, your statement is factually correct. You can even eliminate "probably" because Hollywood will not even need to deviate from the book to make it gay. This is the the gayest book Ive ever read.

Enjoyed the first 2 episodes. I obviously can't relate to being that rich and having that lifestyle in LA, but the 80s aesthetics and the music especially are really, really good. The buildup for the killer is pretty amazing. I'm sure Murphy will still find a way to F this season.
