If you love a good treasure hunt, here you go.
Not sure if anyone else watched the episodes of expedition unknown about the book "The Secret". Short synopsis: Author in the 70's writes a book called "the secret" that includes 12 paintings, and corresponding verses to those paintings. The verses and paintings are not paired together, so that is on you to figure out which paintings and which verses go together. Once you do, the hunt begins. Hidden within the paintings are the clues to the location of the treasure. The cryptic verses also reveal the location. The book has been available now for nearly 50 years and only 3 of the treasures have been found. What makes the hunt more difficult is that the treasures were buried 40-50 years ago, so things have changed, and the treasures were buried in/near historic parks, making digging a pain.
Expedition Unknown did a couple episodes on it and it is really fascinating. I did some digging on it yesterday and found out that ever since that show, more and more clues are being revealed via the internet. And one of the locations is New Orleans. Below is the link to "the secret" treasure hunt tips for New Orleans. So far, nothing has been found yet.
Some keys in the painting:
29 and 90 on the clock is the lat/long of new orleans/lafayette square.
The outline of the sleeve of the arm holding the mask, turned on it's side, is an outline of the Miss. River. The mask itself resembles the face of Louis Armstrong.
"Preservation" on the clock eludes to preservation hall.
The Moon on the clock, resembles the superdome.
The stars and moon on the clock also resemble the manhole covers for NOLA S&WB.
To the right of the clock, there is a checkerbox that has, what appears to be, a wolf or dragon. Turn it upside down, it is the state of Louisiana.
The boy in the clock face - Some say it resembles the boy in a statue in Lafayette park. Other say that his outline resembles the outline or outer points of Italy (Piazza d'Italia). Also, the wrinkles in the hand that is holding the mask may point to the Piazza D'Italia as well, resembling the concentric circles there.
Clues from the verse:
"At the place where jewels abound" - Mardi gras, beads, etc... further confirming New Orleans.
The next 3 verses are giving you specifics of where the treasure is buried.
"Only 3 stand watch" - many believe this could be the statues on gallier hall, that overlooks Lafayette square. In addition, there are 3 statues within gallier square.
Possible locations believed to be the location of the treasure are: Louis Armstrong park, Lafayette Square, Piazza d'Italia.

Are there any racist statues near these locations that we can say we're there to remove as cover for the excavation?

Sounds like someone was at Mardi Gras in the stands at Igor's
Eta
Or maybe the Pontchartrain hotel
The hotel would welcome guests such as Frank Sinatra, Rita Hayworth and Truman Capote and become part of the local culture, from drawing New Orleanians to the Silver Whistle Cafe in the morning for blueberry muffins to providing the site where the deal was signed to create the Saints.

If it’s located in a drain pipe, it’s safe to say it hasn’t moved in 50 years.

It’s really interesting but I don’t think that all will ever be found. Too much has changed and the author (who I think is the only one who knows exactly where the items are) is dead.

But the artist that painted the paintings is still alive, and he knows all the clues in the painting.

Could the boy be Peter Pan and represent St. Peter Street? Preservation Hall is on St. Peter.
