Everything about this movie kicks arse.

Perfect mid 90s movie.

It's a great film. The scene where he offers a draw after the opponent's mistake is good stuff.

Decided to reread the Wiki article on the movie and found this:

Celtics didn't announce it till early May, though he's been with the team for a few years now.

Interesting. Chess is like tennis where you have to get in the head of your opponent to win. One on one sports make you understand your opponent more than team sports.

“That was a mistake”

“There is is!”

Amazing to make chess exciting on film

The scene where Ben Kingsley finally makes him Grandmaster is one of my favorites in film.

“I’ve never been prouder of anyone in my life”

“I’m honored to cal myself your teacher”

SfBF has to be one of the most underrated movies ever. It's absolutely an incredible movie.

It also hits way harder for me now that I have a son too.

But it's just so good. I think mainly because the kid who plays Josh is so good and comes off as just such a sweet kid. And it's well acted by everyone else too. Montegna is great. Fishburne is great. Kinglsey is great.

I tear up a couple times in this film. Great break down of an over ambitious father and teacher. But also they realize the special talent they are dealing with.
