Five years after his debut as a professional wrestler, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson punched his way onto the silver screen with a small role in 2001’s The Mummy Returns. In the 15 years since, he’s used his action hero physique, deep voice and on-screen charisma to climb the ranks of Hollywood, claiming the title this year of the world’s highest-paid actor, with total earnings of $64.5 million and the 19th spot on FORBES’ Celebrity 100 list.

“I can kick arse better than anyone on the planet,” Johnson said in 2012, the year he debuted on the Celebrity 100. “And I have a decent smile.”

What Johnson managed to do—parlay his original career into a lucrative “second act”—is rarely done successfully. Just think of all the forgotten celebrities who pop up on reality TV or as hosts of various award shows. But some on our Celeb 100 list have managed to come back with a new groove—and mint millions while while doing it.

What Johnson has pulled off with that arse-kicking and grinning —parlay his original career into a lucrative “second act”—is rarely done successfully and takes time. He transitioned from ensemble roles in films like Fast and Furious to be a box office draw, as evidenced in his $472 million grossing star vehicle San Andreas—from which he likely got a hefty backend cut.

Can't say the man didn't bust his arse to get where he is. He seems like a grinder and always on the move working on a particular project (whether we liked those projects or not).

Yeah. He's got a TV show on HBO and he's doing multiple films a year. Guy works.

Not to mention that he's become the franchise Doctor. He's constantly stepping in to stale franchises or reboots.

Does it? He's super charismatic. I don't mind him at all.

I like him. He's no great actor but he fills the Arnold Schwarzenegger role of big muscle action star. He's way better than Vin Diesel

That's not per movie, he just works a lot. RDJ is still making way more per Marvel movie.

I wonder how much he got paid when WWE made a TV show that's a coined phrase for his WWE character.

I enjoy most of the things that I see him in. He's just a fun dude to watch on camera. I was passed my prime wrestling watching age when he came up as The Rock, but I enjoy most of his movies. But I love mindless entertainment that he tends to be apart of.

He's not my favorite actor in the world, but he's a pretty good action star, pretty funny, ripped as frick, works hard, and seems like a very good person. Would be very hard to ever hate this man.

He's more fun to watch in person. I remember at WM he had 75,000 people hanging onto every word he said. The man knows how to work a crowd like no other.

I like him but I haven't really watched or been interested in much he has done recently except Ballers and San Andres. Looks like he is doing a remake of Shazam!

I like The Rock. He obviously works extremely hard and seems like a good human being.
