The pious Krill may take issue with Only the Good Die Young.

I am confused. I have not seen the show. It was advertised as a "Galaxy Quest/Airplane" spoof show, which lead me to pass on it. All of he comments make me think its a drama with some comedic elements. WHICH IS IT AND IS THE SHOW ANY GOOD? How many episodes do I need to give it before a final decision on the series?

Galaxy Quest is what it looked like but not what it was. It’s basically a Star Trek series in spirit with about 20% more humor built in.

^^^This is fairly accurate.
Sort of a TNG style (positive, hopeful sci-fi) with Seth MacFarlane style humor (but not over the top like the cartoons [not a complaint]). Social and political themes are addressed with a pretty even handed approach despite SM's hardcore left leanings.
I really enjoy the show.

I’ve enjoyed it. Reminds me of a modern Star Trek with more humor.

Bump for tonight’s new episode

I started watching it from my DVR and the verbal audio is muted. I can hear all background music and noises, but I’m having to watch with the closed captioning.
Even happening during the commercials.
Weird

It's a really good show, you will know by the first 1-2 episodes if you like it or not..
It's Seth McFarland's best work, by far

Mine did the same, I am on Dish network. It isn't the first time this has happened to me but on different shows. What seems to be happening is all the center channel info is lost.
I just streamed it on the app and it should be on Hulu now also. I have had it happen several times on Gotham which also had audio screwups tonight for me. I switched both from Dish to my OTA antenna tonight to avoid it in the future, I did verify OTA (Fox44 in BR) was fine but it was after the show started so I just waited to see all of it.
This was one of my favorite episodes because I enjoy "first contact" plot lines.

It was quite good. They have explored some interesting concepts for various societal systems. Though, I think they missed an obvious way to refute the astrological sign thing as different locations in the galaxy will see different stars and whatnot.
The first contact protocol seems a bit loose, especially compared to Star Trek. Interstellar beings visit any planet capable of sending out microwave transmissions? What do you do after that? Just leave them be? Is it out of worry that the "evil" species will come first to steal resources/invade?
Also, not sure how I'm going to like Jessica Szohr on the show. Her character has some big shoes to fill, as the previous girl did an good job. And, unfortunately, she is not aging well.

While I hate to say it my enjoyment of the series is beginning to wane. When the plot is confined to the ship's crew what is the point of being on a ship in deep space. While I understand I am overlaying the Star Trek template onto The Orville it is hard not to, by design. Bring on the drama caused by external forces, please.
