IGN: And he has to try and get to Brand in this little ship?
Nolan: That's the idea.
Then he's an idiot who doesn't understand the science of the movie he helped to script. The characters tell us that the wormhole opened a portal to another galaxy. Individual galaxies are separated by tens of millions of light years. There is no way Cooper is going to get to Pluto in that little ship, let alone another galaxy.
Voyager I is the fastest craft ever built by man and it took it 35 years to leave the solar system.

Are you saying he's wrong? Are you saying Chris Nolan wanted the portal to be open? Why would the brother of the director and one of the two writers go into all this depth about this movie in an interview, give some massive detail about the plot, then say something like this if it were wrong? Something this huge to the story line. Your argument makes no sense. I understand if you don't like it. By the way, no mention of God in the interview.

I'm confused. Did they tell us in the movie that the wormhole was closed? I don't recall us hearing that.

I'm saying you can accept that stupidity. I'll stick to common sense. If the wormhole is closed then all of those people orbiting Saturn in that station are going to die. They have no way of reaching a new home and will eventually die in space, thus making the entire movie pointless.

Well, I don't think that means Coop is going to just start flying away until he dies. That'd be dumb.
I'm not going to get too caught up in the ending.

Actually the point of the movie was for the survival of the human race and thanks to Brand that will happen whether or not they die in space.

If he had intended it they should have written it in. Since they didn't it is therefore not canon.

Well, that won't change my opinion on the movie.

Every single character was was working toward trying to make Plan A succeed. Every one of them. Even the ones who had given up on it still would have preferred that option. The fact that Nolan believes the wormhole has closed means that Plan A failed.

quote:It shouldn't. Actually it doesn't make much sense if the wormhole is open, either. If the portal is open, why wouldn't Murph's colony go through it to Brand's planet? Why live on a spaceship for eternity?
Well, that won't change my opinion on the movie.

Where do you think those pilots who were randomly taking off and landing were going? They have to set up the colony to make it livable before the main body gets there. The final shot of the film, with Brand on the planet's surface, shows about a dozen temporary structures set up on the planet - which implies that they are beginning the process of colonization.

Only if you take Jonathan Nolan's interview seriously. Which you seem to be doing.

Why don't people just take the ending as a hopeful ending where the human race is saved through Murph's work and Brand's colonization? That's how I take it...because hey, it's a movie.
