I forgot to revisit the thread, but I finished this last week and really liked it a lot. A lot of that has to do with Gleeson...I think he's great in this.
And something about Mare just works.
I think the show settled into itself a good bit. It's not groundbreaking TV or anything, but I enjoyed it and it's a nice spinoff of The Office (clearly you can see the similarities, but I think they do a good enough job of being different enough to be their own thing).
I still feel like the Ned/Mare thing was forced too quickly, but I didn't mind how it played out.
Esmerelda still needs to tone it down. Ken is still great. Detrick kept growing on me and I like him now. And it has the perfect amount of Oscar honestly.
I'm all in if they keep the show going (and I think it was renewed for a S2 already, right?). It won't be as good as The Office, but I don't need or expect it to be. But it's just a solid show that I sort of wish aired on network TV for some reason.

NBC just announced that The Paper will be airing on the network in November. I think this is the first Peacock show to get a network release.

Peacock original The Paper is getting a broadcast run behind St. Denis Medical on Mondays, starting Nov. 10.
Wow, I didn't realize that. That falls in line with my comments above.
And I will give a shoutout to St. Denis Medical. I really enjoyed S1 of that show a lot. Sort of an Office meets Scrubs kind of vibe (for obvious reasons), plus I like David Alan Grier. And Wendi McLendon-Covey is solid in it (sometimes she tries too hard to be awkward Michael Scott, but all in all it sort of works). Honestly, I like everything about the show except for Allison Tolman (who is, unfortunately, sort of the main character). She is awful on this show...like bad bad. But everything else makes up for it. I'd definitely recommend it if you like Justin Spitzer-type shows (I loved Superstore, for example).

The Office was a breathe of fresh air and broke some new ground.
Michael Scott was THE straw that stirred that drink.
The Paper trailer promises try-too-hard forced humor, more stale characters and tired diversity, and a format and concept that's 20 years old and already done.

All in all it was pretty good.
I actually like Esmerelda as the Dwight of the show

I don’t think it’s bad. Not on par with the office obviously. A little more on par with parks and rec just not quite as good. I’ll keep tuning in for a bit.

Nothing else on so I gave it another shot...and I liked it. Had many LOL moments. On episode 4 now.

So you haven’t watched it and are telling us your opinions based on the trailer?
Thanks, I guess.

Yes.
That's my call. The show premise (weak) is a Hail Mary.
If a trailer sucks badly, odds are high the series or movie is far worse.
(You're welcome)

You do know that the first episode of the American version of The Office was seen as a weak ripoff of the British series and the American series took a few episodes to find its own way, right?

Yup.
But then we also know that until the Michael Scott character was tweaked to the one we all know and loved, The Office was floundering and likely going to fail.
It still doesn't change the opinion that the trailer for 'The Paper' was pathetic; anything can happen, but I can't see it for this show.
If not for Steve Carell's over the top performances that literally and totally carried the show, the Office would have crashed and burned.

Just finished the 1st season and I loved it. Characters were all good and their interactions were great.

5 episodes in and I have some chuckles. I enjoy it.
I’m at the pride episode with a low tolerance for woke but am hopeful.
