I will say I was the only person on here to say the CPA was guilty and deflecting it onto the stepdad.
This is his smile which the rest of his face is cut out. Right above the drawn picture.
That was the biggest giveaway

What a frustrating show.
I think the mother fricking producers were actually trying to make this point all along. There is no way they weren't trolling if you look at the series start to finish.

No. And I won't. You may very well have been right about whatever it is you're talking about. I couldn't care less about this show.
If you are, congratulations. This is not an everyday thing for you.

The DVD of Chandra and Naz was left on Stone's doorstep by someone associated with Freddy. They showed a prison guard burning a DVD and handing it to Freddy in Riker's. He was trying to help out Naz because he "knew" Naz didn't have the stink of a guilty person.
And I'm not giving Stone too much credit here. He went to Weiss with the info he finally found out about the financial advisor and she wasn't interested. Yet, when given the opportunity to pass that same info along to Stone to help out Naz, he didn't do shite. He was retired at that point and under no legal obligation to keep what he found confidential. Stone was right there asking him "What do you know? Who did it?" and Box didn't say anything.
The only character I felt came off as a "good guy" in the end was Stone. And, hell, even he didn't do a great job - those phone records and security footage were available to him too and he didn't put 2 and 2 together about the financial advisor.
The moral of this story is everyone takes the easy road and the path of least resistance. And that's a scary thing to realize about the judicial system in this country. God help you if you end up at the end of that path.

Things would be boring without him. Let's face it.

You guys all crack me up. So much nitpicking!
Good ending to a really solid show. I enjoyed the acting a good bit.

What are you bringing to the conversation again?

Nah, it saved itself a little in the last episode for awhile. It wasn't until the end of the trial that I threw in the towel. Just a lot of nonsense from a legal standpoint. I've seen much better accuracy from a Law and Order episode. There were some solid moments with the DA cross of Naz and what not. It was just the way things happened at the end of the trial that hurt it. A 6 to 6 jury with that much evidence and the fact that he was demolished on the stand? No fricking way. Also, the DA has 90 days to decide to retry. It just threw me off. The 6 to 6 was worse than anything and had me really hating the show. There were some moments in the last episode, though. Sure.

With most shows on this board I agree
But this one, the "nitpicking" was 100% legitimate. Like most have said, the production, acting, directing were all great. The writing was simply a clusterfrick
Examples:
Box- first episode he is all about investigating this murder. Then decides "frick it, I guess he's guilty". Retires, and THEN decides to start investigating at the very end of the trial
Nas- Young kid starts using drugs in prison? Helping out the tough guy for protection?Totally reasonable, sure it happens a lot. Starts getting neck tats, knuckle tats that say sin? While in the middle of a trial? GTFO
Shandra- makes out with a dude on trial for murder in a prison cell while in the middle of her first big time case? Goes out and buys pills for him, then brings them in her vag into the prison cell?
No one gives an ounce of effort to look into the stepdad, who has a couple of domestic abuse charges against him, until halfway thru the trial?
And that's just a few. If you consider that nitpicking then idk what to tell you

The biggest mystery is......How did this garbage get out of the trash can at HBO and onto the screen? Perhaps the Worst show I ever saw from HBO.

I haven't read any posts coming in blind. Episode 1 was off the charts. Episode 7 salvaged a lot of meh in between. Terrific acting. The script was sometimes lacking.

Loved this show. Not super happy about the ending.
This was a Gandolfini project. He was supposed to play JT's role. Gandolfini's proucer credit is the last name in the intro sequence.
So who met Nas outside the gate when he was cut loose?

Fitting ending.
So many flaws in the investigation and trial process.
After an outstanding pilot, the episodes afterwards clearly rode the coattail of it.

I thought this episode actually showed how fair our justice system is. A right to a fair trial, decided by a jury of his peers, both sides presenting compelling arguments, having to testify on the stand, the hung jury, the prosecution knowing they're wrong, etc, etc.
Some might disagree but I thought it highlighted all the very fair aspects of this system.
The problem was all the innacuricies in the actual handling of the trial scenes and of course the pacing and delivery of the show itself.
This would have been a great 4 episode show. The hours and hours of prison material, feet remedies, and cat shenanigans should have been cut out entirely. They should have made it far more of a who done it mystery and focused on the detective a lot more....but they didn't.
Ultimately, it was not a great show. Was it a bad show? Not nessecarily, but it was just extremely flawed and mishandled. I have still never seen a pilot so damn perfect, then have the next 7 hrs of material fall so short of what was achieved in the first 60 minutes. It's actually pretty incredible, the fall, if you think about it.
