It is the eradication of severe poverty. It makes it to where what we consider "poor" in the US ranks in the top 10% globally in Living Standard.

Obesity related symptoms are the leading killer of the poor in the US.

Our poor die from fricking gluttony

Think on that for just a minute

Not in the sense you mean. But the people making this movie are losers because condemn a system that has made their success and existence possible

Unchecked capitalism morphs into an oligarchy where the smallest amount of people control the majority of wealth.

Regarding the movie it uh seems more Disney/Pixar friendly which is an odd choice given how dark the book is. Ending will probably be about how money corrupts or something basic like that

Surely they will let people see it for free and give out free popcorn? They’re not rating to make a profit after all.

This

It's a critique on how Stalinism corrupted the Russian Revolution and turned what was supposed to be a socialist/communist rebellion into a hardcore authoritarian dictatorship.

Orwell himself was a democratic socialist he wasn't a fan of capitalism either

No it doesn’t, Wealth is created it is not finite. Only government force stops people from creating new wealth and competition

Monopolies can stop competition as well there's a reason why we have laws against them or are supposed to

Why didn’t he just make his own movie? Assclown

With all these changes they should just set it in the 1984 universe seeing as every bit as been rewritten

Not without government help.

Because it gives governments more power

government can help stifle competition by stiffening barriers to entry, for sure.

Any time you hear a billionaire calling for higher taxes or more regulations (usually under the guise of climate change or other similar faux altruistic bullshite), all they are doing is pulling up the ladder. Making it harder and costlier to enter their space and compete with them.

And corporations can't exist without government

Also socialism wasn't corrupted by Stalin. Stalin's rule is just the natural result. Everywhere they try actual socialism, they always end up with a Stalin. We just change the name to shite like Mao, Kim Jong Il, Chavez, Castro, and Maduro.

Orwell understood this. Animal Farm uses socialism to give a critique of purist Utopian ideologies. Socialism, capitalism, and even anarchism are all vulnerable if puritanical utopians are behind them. He was a pragmatist who leaned socialist.

He was a staunch socialist early in life, and gradually became a full pragmatist who favored some socialism, to provide safety nets. He wasn't some cookie cutter textbook political ideologue. I find that most people aren't.

Do people not study Orwell in lit classes anymore? I am just remembering papers I wrote in college, in this thread. Seems like everyone else is just skimming Wikipedia, and then being like "I'm done"

A film made by a corporation with millionaire actors changing the totalitarian undertones to appease communist foreign viewers.

Is it going to have one of the animals looking at a pig and telling him, "Slop is for closers!"?

Will there be a cow munching on some hay saying, "Greed, for lack of a better word, is good"?

yeah this thread is wild.

Guess that should be expected in 2025 when everyone wants to push their politics into everything. Orwell was not pro-capitalism for anyone that needs to know. Do whatever you want with that info.

now that movie was an effective, albeit hamfisted, critique of capitalist excesses

Also, for those saying Stalin corrupted the revolution. . .they'd need to explain Lenin creating the secret police, and giving their first instructions, infiltrate and arrest (read "disappear") socialist and social democrat organization leadership. No different than Mao, Pol Pot, Kim Il Son, etc

Socialist revolutions are always rotten from the beginning, because the ideology is incompatible with humans.

Bro, the monopoly that has consumed all of its competition and can thus control prices to maximize profits without worrying about customers finding cheaper alternatives isn't going to sleep with you.
