I wouldn't disagree with your points...
But, I think from what I remember of The Lone Ranger back in the day that it could have been better. It was just Captain Jack meets the Wild West.

Depp's Lone Ranger was crap.
They couldn't decide if they were making a comedy, an adventure movie, or a horror pic.
The Lone Ranger is a pussy, Tonto is regarded by his fellow Indians as a retard (and rightfully so). Even the horse is reduced to having mental problems.
Two and a half hours of watching Johnny Depp do his Hunter S. Thompson/Captain Jack combo of face-mugs for the camera.
Just a shite movie.
The only redeeming characters were the Lone Ranger's brother and nephew. I didn't give a shite about anyone else.

No. The Last Crusade was an adventure movie that had a little humor here and there, but not at the expense of the franchise. A full-out Mel Brooks parody of the Lone Ranger would've been awesome, but Disney wanted people to take parts of this movie 100% seriously (cannibalism? really?)while going for the ridiculous in other scenes (Silver climbs a tree while wearing a hat!).
Make a Lone Ranger parody, or make a serious Lone Ranger movie. Depp and his crew didn't have the talent to balance both genres.
It's just a shite movie.

I agree and that is the reason John Carter tanked at the box office. I actually thought it was a great movie and was entertained. Promoted well it should have killed. Not saying Lone Ranger is any good as i haven't seen it but it sure seems like Disney is struggling with promoting. Which is odd given the massive money spent on making these films.
