The Ellie character is hard to watch

She’s ugly as frick

She is even worse at acting

It’s almost like the writers know she’s a terrible actress. She drops an F bomb every other line it seems. That must be her crutch

Not to mention, the character they are writing is flawed as hell.

Yeah, when I picture the girl "who took a nose dive off the ugly tree and hit every branch coming down," from Matt Damon's story in Saving Private Ryan, I now think of Bella Ramsey.

I can still remember my excitement for this show before it started. We even coordinated watch parties on Sundays (don't hate lol). The watch parties died down to non-existence each week because the show wasn't that good. Don't get me wrong, season one was still worth watching, but I was transitioning from excitement for the next episode to dreading watching Ellie in any scene.

The last time I hated a character in a show/movie this much was Professor Umbridge in Harry Potter lmao. Either way, I am unsure I can make it through season two.

So I guess throughout the season normal people won’t be able to come to this board to discuss the show? Just have to listen to the same miserable people come here repeatedly and mention how ugly the main actress is?

I have played the 2nd game and didn’t care for it too much. But I think it could work better in tv form and thought the first episode was fine. We’ll see how they build on it

I played the first game last year and am thinking of playing the second one soon.

I don't get all the hate about Bella and her appearance but she is a HORRIBLE actor and is nowhere close to filling this role as it should be.

Her looks are a legitimate gripe. Beyond her bad acting and the general terribleness of her character, her looks take me out of every single scene she is in. It’s a huge disservice to an already divisive piece of media

I don’t disagree. I believe she was terribly cast as well, but what’s done is done. If it’s that distracting then just hang it up I totally get it. But no reason to have 100 posts in here saying the exact same thing when I assume people wanna have a genuine conversation about the episode. I don’t think that’s unfair

We apparently need 3 threads for each episode

1. Game players/spoilers

2. Non-game players/no spoilers

3. People obsessed with her looks who want to just repeat/melt that she's ugly with nothing else to say.

Its pretty funny that the goonies is one of the most beloved movies of all time but this show is unwatchable because Bella's face is too distracting.

I wouldve rather them cast someone different too but its more to do with how the character comes off as too abrasive the way it is being played in the show.

Don't care about the looks, and I don't think it's the actress's fault. She's playing the character as written, I'm assuming. As such, I put the blame at the feet of the showrunners. I get that she's a moody teenager and such (and if I didn't get it... we had a therapist to tell us and Joel that... repeatedly!), but they need to write her as much more likeable with more redeeming qualities.

And as others have said: pretty selfish to be so lackadaisacal about the dangers of encountering infected when you're immune but your best friend is NOT.

Episode gets an "okay" for me. Definitely could have been better but I was still entertained.

Yeah for sure. We'll see if they can turn it around with some endearing scenes in the future. The little horseback moment and the dance were the only parts she didnt seem like a count. And she quickly erased the dance by telling joel to frick off

+1 Mazin and Druckmann aren't doing her any favors

I'm sure there will be a redemption arc soon. Lets keep in mind this was the first episode. She'll learn, grow, and mature as a character as the season moves along.

Regarding Dina never liking someone looking like Bella, can’t imagine there’s a huge selection of teen lesbos in that settlement, so you take what you can get.

Episode was a little slow but I liked it overall. The therapist scenes and stalker scenes were very good.

If the goal is to make Ellie seem unlikeable, then they absolutely nailed it.

Mediocre show with subpar acting and absolutely terrible cinematography. Never understood the hype. It will never capture the magic that the original game had.
