well yeah, smart people are boring

a smart person stays on backroads the entire way and makes it to Wyoming without any issues most likely

but nobody watches that show

My argument against staying entirely on backroads is you have to remember at this point we're 20 years into post-apocalyptic. Small roads are likely grown over, haven't been cleared (FEDRA has cleared some of the main roads for their own self-serving purposes), and you're more likely to run into potential life-endangering issues in an isolated area (not as many places to hide, seek shelter, food, clean water, etc.).

At some point you're likely going to have to interact with other people/other areas.

Roads are still absolutely useable if not maintained and no large amount of traffic is involved. The fact the road was blocked at that bridge was crazy as the exit ramp and embankments were open.

MAYBE, the raiders set up that blockade so people have to go through the city but it could have been displayed much better.

I agree with this. Or he would have procured one with the quickness when the SHTF.

meh not if they planned on bunkering down and setting up a small self sufficient living area. he planned on being isolationist and had pretty much everything he needed already. dont see much use for something that would be way more demanding on gas/upkeep.

My thought was that it had been intentionally blocked as well, but that didn’t make sense when you see all the old cars backed up right before the tunnel and then the tunnel itself is clear.

That made it seem to me that it was a legit accident that had blocked up the tunnel years ago and was never unplugged because of the zombies etc.

It was very clearly blocked off on purpose. Vehicles were parked sideways blocking the tunnel.

Plus, he seemed convinced that there was a quick way around, but they just happened to have gotten lost because she had trouble reading the map. They only ran into the attackers because they got lost.

His plan was to take a chance trying to make a quick pass through the city and catch the exit back onto the highway on the other side, instead of finding some rural road and going way around.

Also, it’s interesting that the group in KC were confident that they could traverse the city and break into buildings without running into infected. Clearly it’s somehow related to whatever seemed to be breaking out of the floor near the end of the show.

They had FEDRA tanks and weapons. It was right outside the QZ. I’m guessing they had been all around that area already.

You'd have to completely pretend that there are no real world examples of a woman rising up to be a feared leader for your lame arse rant to be worth considering. Boudica, Joan of Arc, Tomyris all did that shite in just as if not more brutal eras.

None of these examples work because none of them are examples of fighting men naturally choosing to be led by women. Two of them are Queens and as such their soldiers would have had no say and whether she led them. The other was awarded her position by a King and was not the least bit trusted in military matters by French commanders. They often lied to her in agreeing to go along with her plans then did something else because her ideas were often completely insane and led to many near disasters.

Yes, if there exist sufficient structure under which soldiers find themselves such that they are not allowed to choose their own commanders then there have on very rare occasions been examples of them being led by women. But that is not the case here. These rebels do not recognize a far away monarch who's authority they dare not question. They're in a position to choose who leads them. They would not have chosen a woman.

I don't think it was on purpose at all. Traffic had been jammed up well behind that truck - it wasn't like there just a handful of cars blocking the way. And the tunnel was all clear on the other side of the truck. I said it last week, for me it looked as though there was a legit accident during the breakout that was never cleared because zombies were running around everywhere. Also, Joel believed there was a way to quickly go around the jam and get back on the interstate but they got lost because he trusted Ellie to read the map. If they don't get lost deep in the city, they don't run into the raiders.

Nothing about the 5th renders them choosing the pudgy girl with the Minnie Mouse voice any more plausible.

Well she barely lasted two episodes so she can’t hurt you anymore.
