anybody else check it out? It's not a great film, but it's not as bad as some of the critics are saying.

It's worth watching. It's enjoyable if you like dudes being dudes with some war thrown in.

Ultimately I think it was a little directionless but it's hard to tell. Vietnam gives a lot of movies/books/shows some cover in that regard because you can always say the sloppiness and all-over-the-place-ness is just an analogy for the war itself.

Agree. The elements combine to make a good viewing experience even if the plot seems predictable.

I enjoyed it. Would watch again? Yes, but only if it was like halfway through on TV.

I really enjoyed the movie. I wasn't expecting some deep, thoughtful film but rather a good bro movie and that is what this is.

Looks like I need to buy the book.

And that dude was obviously crazy!

I enjoyed this movie. Nothing earth moving. But an enjoyable story and decent cast.

there aren't many new stories to come out of the Vietnam involvement

Yeah, that's too bad too. I keep waiting for someone to tell some of the stories of all of the Vietnamese that fled the country after Saigon fell.

My wife's family left on one of the last flights out the night that Saigon airport was over-run. When my FIL told me the story, it was unreal.

And her twin uncles left on a boat when they were 16... they spent 3 days non-stop bailing out the boat because the Chinese navy shot holes in the boat. The Chinese did that because the day before pirates attacked the boat and stole all the valuables, fuel and food from the boat and left them drifting. The chinese were pissed there was nothing for them to take. They were eventually rescued by the Malaysian navy and taken to a Red Cross refugee center and literally lived on the beach for about 6 months before they finally were allowed to move into a refugee dormitory/cabin. All of this at 16 and no parents or other family members taking care of them. Now, when my teenagers start a bitch fest about how hard life is, I tell them it could be worse and remind them of the uncles. It works, sometimes.

Anyway, I think there are a ton Vietnam War of stories remaining untold that could make for good movies.

Floating ... my girlfriend has a similar story. One of 9 to escape with her parents out of Saigon to the Philippines, then Camp Pendleton. Harrowing tales of abuse at sea and on land.

I'm making a project now about Vietnamese Refugees and Fort Chaffee is one of our sets. Interesting stuff.

I also think some of the critics backlash is against Pete ... they are still pissed about Green Book's success. He is such a genuine person and filmmaker, so some of it seems a bit unfair. But some notable publications (NY Times and Vanity Fair) liked it fine.

Just finished this up and the reviews/ratings are way to low on this. Is this some Earth shattering, best movie of all time movie, absolutely not, but it was a great way to kill 2 hours on a Friday night.
