This is what they ought to be doing instead of reboots and remakes. Just put the classics back in theaters from time to time.
Save the money that you'd waste on a budget and marketing for a shitty remake, drop the ticket prices a few bucks, and everybody wins.
I second this. I have noticed the past few years, theaters have been showing classics at different times of the year (mainly Halloween, etc. in October). But these were mainly smaller theaters like that one uptown in Nola, but I'm pretty sure I saw something similar in Shreveport at the larger theater near Youree.
I wouldn't mind going to see The Godfather in theaters since I wasn't born when it was released and never got the theater experience. I wish they'd do the saga in theaters.

Anybody else find it odd that when Michael comes home he's basically a boy war hero with really no connection to or experience in the mafia itself, but after he gets back from Italy he's the boss of bosses and knows how to do everything in the mafia? Did he learn over there?
Yes, he learned some while over there, but more importantly his father was still alive to counsel him. Don Vito trained him, so NO I DONT FIND IT STRANGE AT ALL.
He was schooled by Vito's childhood friend in Sicily and saw first hand how much more violent it was there and I think it hardened him. Not to mention WW2 probably hardened him a good bit. But, like mentioned he had Vito to counsel and teach him. In the book Vito was giving him the political connections and I think died before he could give them all (I need to reread it and skip the Lucy Macini health issue chapters).

First saw it at the Nona Theater in Lafayette in 1971 with my new bride. Read the book afterward. Not disappointed by either.
Will see it for umpteenth time when it gets to Baton Rouge.

I guess someone at Paramount made Coppola an offer he couldn't refuse.

AMC has been doing $5 Fan Faves since they reopened after Covid. It's cool to see a movie you like on the big screen for the first time. But you have to check every week; they might only have the classic movie for one night before rotating to another cinema.

I just read the book, and I've probably seen the movie 10+ times in the last 20 years.
I thought the book was pretty good but I expected utter brilliance and I don't feel like I got it. Perhaps we've been spoiled by the character development in Mad Men and expect it now in every book or film, but we didn't get it in the Godfather book.

The book was decent. The films (1 and 2 at least) were far better.

Loved the book. Am looking for the film adaption being rescreened.
One good thing about the Covid BS, putting the classics back on the silver screen for us...
