Had a strong weekend opening and continues going strong:

The numbers are in, and they are, as Miranda Priestly herself might say, groundbreaking. The Devil Wears Prada 2 opened to an estimated $233.6 million worldwide in its opening weekend, including $77 million domestically and $156.6 million internationally — one of the strongest theatrical debuts of 2026. It is the first female-driven movie in modern history to kick off the summer box office, a title that is often associated with a Marvel superhero film.

Are these box office numbers adjusted for inflation? I have always wondered this when they are compared to numbers from over a decade ago

That's a fair question. The Forbes numbers are not. I can't speak for the Film Updates tweet.
They do note its a strong non-Marvel opening. Which is good for everyone. The Forbes article gets into the marketing for the film and that likely pushed some of the success.

So: Marketing or Nostalgia?
The answer is that this film’s opening weekend success is the product of a team that understood nostalgia is a starting point, not a strategy. The love for the original was the room. The marketing campaign was what filled it. Female moviegoers were waiting for this movie for 20 years — but they were given trailers that broke records, merchandise they actually wanted, a press tour that became content, talent they were excited to discover, and a cultural spectacle that felt worthy of the original's legacy.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 did not just capitalize on what people remembered. It gave them something new to feel. That is the difference between a nostalgia play and a genuine rollout. And for anyone studying what a studio-backed campaign looks like when it truly fires on all cylinders, this is the case study worth dissecting.

I doubt it but it's a successful film & we need more of them. I'll never watch it, but I hope there are million who do. We need theaters to be successful.

I watched the first one yesterday with the wife. I had never seen it before. It was a decent enough movie, if you accept the "Anne Hathaway is so frumpy" ugly duckling premise. It was obvious right away that Meryl Streep's character was based on Anna Wintour.

I liked it; Thought it put some solid throwbacks from the original and then also had a good plot to be a stand alone movie. solid sequel especially for a "take your wife to the movies" night

Sorry, not a chick.
Didn't care for the first one (saw w/ Mrs. udtiger). Certainly not going to see this one.

This was more of just a general question. You always hear highest grossing blah blah. My thought is always well yeah tickets are expensive that’s why they keep breaking records.

It'll be interesting to see what it makes this weekend IMO. I know several Moms/Daughters in my age range that are doing a viewing for Mother's Day.

For many millennial women I work with this was a cultural event. Kind of like a lower scale Barbie movie. They got dressed up, went to a nice restaurant, and then went to the movie.
Be interesting to see how the legs hold up.

Saw it with my girl who’s into fashion trends. Was a good movie like the first, enjoyed it.
Now it’s my turn for Mortal Kombat 2!

But you do have some masculinity and possibly sexuality insecurities.
