Episode 7, done in one shot, is the best episode of TV Ive seen this year.
Just finished this one, and yeah it was great. Can’t think of any episode I have seen that was better this year. Either this or mid season BCS finale.
The way they used Spiders (Kidsmoke) by Wilco is one of the best examples I can think of music in movies/TV. Fantastic song in its own right and playing the whole 11 minute song throughout the episode really added to the tension. Really fit the episode.

I started and finished this show yesterday thanks to some recommendations. It. Is. So. Damn. Good.
Lots of thoughts coming... (SPOILER WARNING)
The writing, the performances, the character depths/arcs... Just sensational TV.
My anxiety was through the roof during that entire episode. You know it's great when 25+ mins feel like 5 mins. My wife and I both were sure the episode was only 5-10 mins long.
As someone else mentioned, that monologue in the finale was the icing on the cake. Beautiful.
I died laughing when they accidentally spiked the drink at the b-day party.
I guess the only thing that bugged me about the finale was that even though I'm happy that Sydney came back, she literally accepted no responsibility for her part in the craziness that was episode 7. If she was cast to represent "millennials," they pulled it off perfectly. (impatient, desire for instant gratification, etc.)

I just started this on Sunday. I just finished the finale. One of the best shows I’ve watched in a while. There are no wasted moments. The dynamics between the actors are perfect.

Sydney and Marcus both really annoyed me at the end. I feel like most of the workers were hesitant to accept Carmy but grew to respect and care about him. These two seemed to do the opposite.
Marcus started neglecting his job and falling behind in work and was warned about it multiple times. He was busy with his own side project of making donuts and had the nerve to ask Carmy to try one during what was clearly a crisis situation. Then he referred to Carmy as a "little b****" when he was the one who got his feelings hurt and took several days off of work over it.
Sydney was a great character but she started to make the restaurant all about herself which is messed up because she knows about its past and how much it means to Carmy and really the whole staff who were there before her. She has watched everyone else get chewed out multiple times and has even done it herself but then when she gets rightfully called out for a huge mistake and for being disrespectful to her boss she immediately packs up and quits.
Carmy was right to apologize for the way he spoke to them but really he didn't do anything wrong. They were insubordinate employees and were getting in his way while he was trying to fix a situation that one of them caused.
Overall I loved this show but these two characters went from some of my favorites to least favorites in the last two episodes. I hope next season they will take some accountability. Also Sydney owes an apology to Richie as well. He can be frustrating but the things she said to him were way out of line.

1st season was great. My wife loves it but seems to be on the verge of a panic attack the entire time it’s on

That's called good writing and acting. These characters are all meant to be flawed; they are representing real people. We as an audience are meant to both like and dislike each of these characters in different ways, because humans are flawed by nature. We are never fully happy with 100% of the actions of those around us whom we love nor of ourselves for that matter. This is one of the things that makes this show so great.
Marcus is actually one of my favorites, by the way. He found his passion and dedicated all of his time to perfecting it. Did he skate his responsibilities for it? Absolutely, and we are supposed to dislike that. In the end he learned from this mistake and will grow from it. Each of these characters will continue to make mistakes, because that's what we all do in life.
fricking brilliant show.

Yep. Fantastic show. Disagree with the take on Marcus. I'm not saying he's not at fault, but that's the whole point. He's supposed to be a flawed artist who has just found his passion/genius/obsession. Yes, he screws everyone for the sake of that donut... but... as they said, "Damn, that donut was perfect."
Sydney.. yeah. I don't like that she bailed and didn't take responsibility for the fact she fricked up and her idea was fricked up and screwed everyone. Then she bails on them, after stabbing a crew member.

we are not in disagreement then lol. he's at fault and made a mistake, but he did so due to trying to perfect his passion. he needs to find that balance, because he does still have a duty to perform at work.
he might be my favorite character of the first season.

Absolutely that is what makes this show great. Richie is and example of someone who I couldn't stand at first but I really started to feel for him as the show went on.
It's also crazy to me that Jon Bernthal was only shown briefly yet I feel like I knew so much about his character. He made a great impression and everyone else holding on to his memory tells you about what kind of guy he was. I hope we get more flash backs since he is such a great actor but it wouldn't bother me if we didn't. They showed so much with so little.

I might have given Marcus a second chance, but the only time Sydney should have been allowed back in the building is to pick up her final check.
