The Americans (i'm sure spoilers will be added)

During the past few weeks, I finally started watching and completed the show "The Americans" this morning.
First of all, I must state that this is now a top ten show of all time for me. It was intense but slow at times, perfect for a binge watching experience.
I started watching it when it first aired, but this was before I had DVR or AMAZON PRIME to watch it all at once, so I just couldn't keep up with its time slot every week and make it a point to watch, so I just let it go from my viewing schedule. So I'm glad it was available to watch now. Plus my wife had an unusual hate for Kerri Russell, maybe from Felicity days (I don't know), but she constantly complained about her hair being pushed to one side of her head for some reason, hahahaha.
anyway, the performances of all the main characters throughout the show, especially Matthew Rhys (which I now consider one of the finest actors in the last few years) are incredible, and also Noah Emmerich.
with the way they webbed together the real events of America being all in modern day "red scare" of the day along with actual events like the "star wars" plan and the old guard communists wanting to get rid of the progressive Gorbachev was very interesting.
Put that with a great 80's soundtrack and actually spy intrigue and espionage was just a pleasure to watch.
Since I just finished I just wanted others opinions on the show and bring up points that you either loved or wished the show would have elaborated on more.

Wife and I started watching a couple weeks ago... midway through season 5 now (6 total I think). The whole storyline with Paige is a little silly imo, but overall the show is really good.
First episode where they kidnap the Soviet defector as fleetwood mac’s Tusk is playing... it’s awesome.

Top 5 show of all time
Paige is the only thing bringing it down

Your review is pretty spot on. Awesome acting. I thought is was a tight package and nothing really needed to be elaborated on more. I think it is one of the more under-appreciated shows out there. It is forgotten in a lot of the top shows of all time discussions but it shouldn't be.

We always called Paige “The Ruiner”. And now all tv characters like her have that title in our household. Examples are the kids in ozark & Tate in Yellowstone. Just a bunch of ruiners!

Tate in Yellowstone.
I would have agreed up to this season. He and John's interactions this season have been excellent. However, that is more to Costner's credit than the kid.

She was preceded by the dumbass daughter in Homeland

Yep.
Series needed less Paige and more mail robot. I was expecting the end to mirror the real-life couple the show was based on, but they went another way. Possibly one of the best finales of a show... with Stan set adrift without anyone to trust (maybe Henry).

i'm glad others thought the same thing about Paige...I mean I guess it was supposed to show her gullibility throughout, at first with the whole church thing, and then head first into a love and understanding of communism which she couldn't possibly fully grasp from simply watching old movies with the old lady and having a few discussions.
I was so happy to see her at the end of the show and her choice she made.
Also, mail robot making a cameo with Stan and Aderholt at the elevator was great in the finale !
