Does this account for the increase in ticket prices?

No. These are unadjusted numbers.

Not really. I think it pretty insane that Titanic made over a million dollars a day for over 100 straight days. But I suppose that's just me.

It also shows just how frontloaded many modern movies are. The Force Awakens made close to $1 billion in the United States alone and yet is tied for 17th place on this list.

Well we all know why you posted this, your hands were clean for a few seconds in between creaming yourself to the DCU and you thought "what the hell, I need more material" so you sought out and posted Wonder Woman's earnings.

If you're too young to remember, E.T. had the impact of a combination of Star Wars and Sesame Street - every kind of toy imaginable, an official candy, games, television bits, animated bits, secondary material (records, books), branded material (clothes, lunchboxes, everything) - in the pre-internet era, I'm not sure I can recall anything like it in my 50 years, other than the first Star Wars - as far as saturation into every facet of media and commerce.

Your curmudgeon act aside, it is pretty interesting that very few superhero movies made that list. Remarkable that Wonder Woman and Avengers made that list, since they weren't the pop culture phenomenon that the first Batman and Spider-Man movies were.

E.T. craze was nuts back in early 80s.

The female Ghostbusters reboot brought this movie back to life...I feel like it wasn't getting the E.T. or Jaws love in how huge a hit this movie was. I mean, we all love it but it wasn't talked about as maybe the biggest movie of the 80's along with ET and Back to the Future and Raiders.

Further evidence, the song Ghostbusters debuted at #68 on June 16, 1984, the song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on August 11, 1984, staying there for three weeks!

I'm most surprised by Avatar being number two. I didn't realize it was that popular for that long.
