That’s going snit too far.

Is it?

Michael Jackson total albums sold: 284.6 million
Taylor Swift total albums sold: 263.6 million

She's easily the biggest female pop star of all-time and her live concerts are event theater by all accounts.

Taylor Swift I don’t get.

I keep hearing this from people on this board (mainly middle aged and old white men). Everything is not meant for you, and that’s ok. You don’t need to get her, and moreover, no one needs to really hear about the fact that you don’t get her.

I don’t get Star Wars. I grew up with the first trilogy and enjoyed them, and still watch them every few years, but I just don’t care to watch any of the others. And that’s ok too.

Yeah, what a loser I am - marveling over an attractive female singer who is only two years younger than me. So beta.

She was largely seen as a country singer for the early part of her career. She then became more of a pop singer and really exploded.

Quite misleading. Michael Jackson actually sold that many albums. However, the majority of Swift's "album sales" are album equivalent units (streaming, YouTube, etc).

She's an expert-level businesswoman. Having a film crew document the tour and have a theatrical release for fans who either want to see it again, or didn't get to catch the tour in person is brilliant.

THE DOWNSIDE is that instead of 50k shrieking teens scream-singing her songs at the top of their lungs in the stadium, it's gonna be 500 in the theater and nary a one will STFU enough so that other attendees can actually hear Taylor sing Taylor's songs.

She’s a singer who writes/performs catchy songs that are accessible to people (mostly women) from ages 5 to 55.

A lot of pop music now is either so vulgar that adults don’t want to expose their young children to or themselves don’t want to attend.

Bingo. When the choice of role models available to young women range from TS to some sparkly ex-hooker chanting "Wet arse Pussy," my money's on Taylor.

I think TS has the personality of a wet paper bag. Every time she opens her mouth to talk, she’s just cringe. There’s something very fake and manufactured about her.

A lot of other celebrities don’t like her. She seems to be pretty divisive.

She’s an average singer and a terrible dancer.

But damn, she’s a helluva songwriter and musician. I used to be outspoken in my dislike of her until I fell in love with her Evermore album. I’m not itching to see her tour because I just don’t like her personality and I don’t want to sit in a stadium with grown women screaming like they’re adolescents again. But she’s the best songwriter in pop music ever. She is this generation’s Madonna as far as popularity and touring goes.

FYI: Her album sales numbers are inflated because she’s re-released “new” recordings of them after she lost control and ownership of her original recordings. Her fans are lapping it up and buying the updated recordings while she heads to the bank.

That's not misleading at all, it's just the way the music industry works in 2023. Fewer and fewer people are actually driving to the mall to pick up an album because everything is available for purchase or streaming online. The music industry has adapted to the new world order.

Like it or not, Taylor Swift is the Michael Jackson/Madonna of this generation. And due to the advent of social media her influence is much greater than the other two aforementioned artists were in their prime.

Update:

Taylor Swift has surpassed Star Wars and Spider-Man to become the biggest presale event in cinema history.

$26 million in 24 hours

Yeah, all the celebrity Instagram posts, etc., of celebrities at her concerts certainly speak to how much she is disliked.

Pretty sure the ones who don’t like her wouldn’t be at her concert.

I get why people like her, but I don’t get the absolute hysteria over her and her tour.

I agree that it is weird that a middle aged man doesn’t really connect with Taylor Swift and her fans.

That's pretty fricking crazy considering you don't need to really need to ever buy an album to listen to it anymore.

Not sure I'd call it misleading at all.

150 streams to count as a single sale is a lot of fricking streams.

I listen to Spotify all damn day and there is no chance I'm hearing any song 150 times in one year let alone an entire album.
