whats the reason for this?
Climate is good for nearly year-round production (useful for all the international versions too) and it's definitely cheaper to reuse all the same beaches/sandbars/sets season after season.
Jeff has been on record saying Fiji is perfect for the show.
I wouldn't be shocked either if there are some tax credits or something. Just speculation.

why didn't they do this from the start?
For the first 10-15 seasons (would have to look) they only filmed one per year and there were no international versions, so it was much easier to scout locations ahead of time. Also the challenges weren't as elaborate because production budget was less.
In the first season one reward was the winner got to hang out with Jeff in a local bar, eat a burger, drink a beer, and watch the original show intro on TV.
I am a little surprised they haven't moved it to a Caribbean location for ease of travel. Although they don't do the loved ones visit anymore.

quote:What's funny is this is what was rewarded AFTER the players refused to take part in the challenge because the reward originally was just one single beer on the spot at the end of the challenge. It's also not a real bar. They were in a panic so they just threw together a production tent and made it look as much like a bar as possible. The people there are staff.

quote:They've always done two per year but when they moved to Fiji the filiming became much more simple for production because they could film two seasons back to back (usually march-may). Jeff has said he usually spends about 4 months in Fiji each year and before he would have to spend 6-8 months on location because setup and take down took much longer.

The “bar” was actually the mess hall used by the production crew. They disguised it to look like a bar and members of the team acted like patrons. Kelly, the reward winner, didn’t realize it.

Sure enough.. they also switched to 28 days from 40 after covid so it's even less time for Jeff and production.

Freaking Shaheen was so stressed during that vote; he was the the smart vote but Cedric was just so pathetic it may have been criminal to vote Shaheen over Cedric.
I thought Sai not telling Cedric it was her that voted him was pretty hilarious. I would not have blamed the group to vote Mitch over Sai though.

It's nice to see the members vote out people who are non-deserving of being there (Cedric) or loud mouths who don't stfu (Sai) instead of going for the easy targets like Mitch or Shaheen.

Finally! They got rid of Sai! We’ll see how it goes not getting rid of bigger threats though. Looks like some drama coming next week.

From a viewer standpoint, yes, but it seemed like both were terrible decisions. I could hear an argument for getting rid of Sai. If she made it to the end, she would have an argument by describing how she survived all the way even with people gunning for her. However, there is no reason to get rid of Cedrick. The guy has absolutely no chance of winning. He is a wet blanket in challenges, and his strategic game is pathetic.

While I agree- I feel like I wouldn't want someone on Survivor who wasn't fricking trying. - You don't deserve to be out here there are thousands of people that want to be here and will give it their all. I'd vote Cedric out just for that.

I can think of 2: Sai and Star.
They didn’t know if Sai was on the jury when they voted him out.

If you are out there that's exactly who you should want to stay. Cedric screamed 0 vote finalist I was shocked with his vote out.

Didn't want to start a new thread for this so I'm putting it back in this thread. The Australian Survivor season just finished and HOLY shite what a season. It's remarkable how much better every facet of Australian Survivor is over OG Survivor. The cast, the challenges, the strategy - all light years ahead.
I highly recommend that you start getting into it and watching it because the next season is going to be bananas. It will be Australia vs the World and they have some big names on it like David (who won Aus Survivor and recently Deal or No Deal Island) and Tony. Hopefully they have the winner of Brans vs Brawns 2 that just finished because he/she may be my favorite survivor ever. Don't want to spoil anything.
You can watch the latest season here on Youtube. Hurry up and watch it before they take it down.

On your recommendation, I watched Episode #1 and it was definitely entertaining. Maybe it’s because each team had a “villain” (Nash and Ken) who ramped up the gameplay from Day 1. They obviously don’t work under the same DEI rules that CBS forces Survivor USA to follow but still had a nice mix of contestants. The host seemed like he was impersonating Jeff and repeated some of the same lines Jeff uses; I guess he’s iconic to Survivor AU fans.
On last night’s Season 48 episode, it was frustrating that David doesn’t see that his vision of making it to the end with just strong players who duke it out head to head is flawed because Joe and Eva are a strong pair and have an advantage over the others who are playing solo as far as he knows. David doesn’t have the same strong relationship with Mary; I think Mary will do what she has to do to advance whereas I think Joe would hand Eva the $1 million with a smile.
But now Chrissy has a say in whether David wins or not.

Crissy will never vote any of the strong players to win. Was always going to vote female anyway or someone not good at physical aspect i.e. Mitch. Her only hope was past seasons where physically strong peeps voted out early on. Didn't happen this time.

She might have to if the Final 3 are Joe, David, and Eva, for example. I think she would easily vote for Joe or Eva because they played their game and it was up to the others to stop them but they also played a better social game. Lots of game left to be played though.

Everything you said is pretty spot on. The casting in AU is way superior as they did not go the DEI route. Every season seems to have some pro athletes and models as castaways.
As for the host, yes he definitely took some lines from Jeff. All of the Survivor offshoot hosts seem to do that (probably all owned by the same parent company). But JLP is way more savage than Jeff which I like.

In regards to last nights episode it was disappointing to see 20 minutes of build up about drama within the alliance for the vote to go as easily to Chrissy as it did. Production really made something out of nothing

It is refreshing to see the strong players pick off all the weak ones. In other seasons players like Chrissy and Cedric 100% are carried to the final.
