The dumb Gunn brother doesn’t bother me. What is more concerning is the extreme cheese that is oozing out of every clip that gets posted online. I had high hopes for Hoult as Luthor

I have no idea why some people are white knighting so hard for this this movie. It's looked extremely weird and likely terrible since the very first glimpses. The more we've seen, the worse it's looked.

Look if they’re going to straw man and start blaming trolls this early in the marketing run up to the release all that tells me is that it is not good. Only movies where they know it’ll be underwhelming do they do the audience baiting beforehand.

First reactions. Take it with a grain of salt.

@GraceRandolph

This is the BEST #Superman    movie to date.

When James Gunn gets out of the way & lets his work speak for itself, it's incredible.

It's not perfect, but darn close
& made me a believer in Gunn's #DC

Review embargo lifts TODAY at 3pm EST
& plenty more #DC videos coming!

quote:

@TheJosieMarie

Oh boy… I wasn’t a big fan of Superman. The cast makes this movie worth seeing. Everyone worked so wonderfully together (Krypto!). However, I couldn’t get past the 5-second-attention-span humor. While there were a few memorable scenes, the script is its kryptonite. #Superman

quote:

@ScottDMenzel

James Gunn’s Superman feels like he tossed every Superman comic and his entire filmography into a blender and hit purée.

Corenswet’s solid, Brosnahan’s great, and Hoult is doing something, not exactly sure what.

It is a mess, narratively and tonally, but hey, at least it’s refreshingly fun, entertaining, and not boring.

Think of it as if James Gunn’s Suicide Squad had a baby with James Wan’s Aquaman with a little bit of Guardians of the Galaxy sprinkled on top.

@griffschiller

While it took a minute for me to get on its wavelength, there's no denying that @JamesGunn's #Superman    will define the icon for a new generation. A proudly punk rock rebuttal of the cultural shift towards cynicism & dehumanization that's incredibly on the pulse, raging with authenticity & sincerity. It lovingly captures the very soul of Big Blue filtered through the singular lens of James Gunn. For better or worse (mostly better), this is one of the most handcrafted and authored superhero films I've ever seen. Pulling heavily from All-Star Superman and the animated series, big screen Superman has never felt more vibrant and alive, relatable and human. I fell head over heels for Corenswet & Brosnahan while Hoult's Lex is PERFECT! Deliciously petty, obsessive, vindictive, AND Gunn finally gives Superman and Lex Luthor their long overdue Batman and Joker moment. Walked away instantly wanting more of this world, these characters, and the DCU at large!

quote:

@NextBestPicture

SUPERMAN is just as fun, vibrant & idiosyncratic as James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, yet it still captures the empowering, hopeful spirit of the comics. His distinctive style & offbeat humor, along with the crowded cast of characters, and narrative bloat may not be for everyone, but Gunn was never going to please everyone, no matter what he did. For me, it mostly works, especially because Gunn shows such a deep understanding of what Superman should represent in 2025 while staying true to what the character has always stood for. David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan & Nicholas Hoult all feel perfectly cast in their iconic roles (and yes, Krypto is awesome!), but it’s Edi Gathegi who unexpectedly steals the show as the calm and cool Mister Terrific. There are moments when the film soars, surprises, stumbles & falls. But it’s consistently energetic, full of promise, and delivers a hero audiences can look up to, relate to, and believe in as DC Studios looks toward the future.

quote:

@Lulamaybelle

#Superman    absolutely soars! An awesome achievement & hopeful balm, honoring past iterations (cinema & comics) while cutting its own path. Corenswet has that heroic shimmer. Hoult is delightfully diabolical. Brosnahan brims w/ vim & vigor. Krypto’s adorbs. @Superman @warnerbros

quote:

@ViewerAnon

#SupermanMovie is pretty good. There's less of an overarching plot than a series of episodes. Some are great (Superman vs. Kaiju!), some are not (Superman must escape inter-dimensional prison ??). Easily James Gunn's weakest comic book movie but I still had fun.

quote:

@joblocom

We saw #Superman and it was a mixed bag for our critic. Not a disaster at all (has some great moments) but not as good as hoped for. Oddly the movie short-changed a vital character - Lois Lane and, surprisingly, Clark Kent. Lots of Supes, not much Clark.

quote:

@BpopeTV

James Gunn cooked. *almost* got too goofy, but never crossed line. Optimism and hope shined bright. Slight 1978 Donner vibes, but establishes itself as a #Superman    for a new age. Just what we needed! Full review Tuesday

quote:

@AndrewJ626

Saving more of my thoughts... but #Superman     is just fine. Very ambitious in trying to thrust us into a new universe, but there is simply *too much* going on in Superman’s first solo movie. David and Rachel are *amazing* but there's not enough time with them together.

quote:

@EmpireCityBO

I hope @Superman makes as much $$ as possible this weekend and people have a blast with it. Solid score, Corenswet is good. It unfortunately is far too cornball and disjointed. Worst of all this awful, annoying character below is somehow the centerpiece of the entire plot. Ugh.

her being the first one out of the ones you posted is great. She shills hard and it seems like she makes pretty good scratch doing it.

Actually, she hates Gunn so this is a good sign. There's a lot of reactions now, it sounds like it's very, very comic booky. I'm sure it'll be divisive.

I hope it is good however I meant just in general I don’t trust anything she has to say. I collected Superman and green lantern so I was seeing this regardless.

This board must be in shambles by this. It's going to be successful.

it's going to make money and it's merchandise will be all over by Christmas time.

But that doesn't mean it will be good.

I just saw a review from a YouTuber I trust and they loved it so depending on the reviews from people here, I may go see it. The trailers just look so bad to me so im curious if they aren't representative of the movie as a whole

Gunn doesn't really whiff too hard and he doesn't make great movies either. I expect this movie to be a solid 5 or 6 like all of his other stuff. This summer has been extremely weak so far so anything decent will be welcome.
