so this gives me pause

Just looked him up. Mainly writes about anti-wokes, and blames right-wingers for Joker 2 failing.

So yeah. . .i may give this movie to next weekend, based on that review alone.

I've been saying this movie is being overestimated. It's going to do man of steel numbers.

If this movie made $30, it's defenders would say "well it was made for $29.50, so this is a win!!!"

I hope these critics are wrong, and they didn't just pull a Superman 4.

The "refreshingly political" comment makes me think this should do well with the critic-class

Jeremy Jahns - a better time, if you were drunk

Main issues were:

Typical misplaced Gunn humor stepping on emotional moments

Overstuffed plot and underutilized characters

Not enough Clark Kent

Said if you are worried about James Gunn doing Superman, you're right.

If you're excited about James Gunn injecting a GOTG vibe into Superman, you're right.

The same rotten tomatoes that deletes reviews that don’t fit the narrative?

Yeah just finished his review. You can tell he kind of hated this movie. He basically said Gunn tried to shoehorn humor in every scene

A lot of the "top critics" aren't liking it

@EW

Despite 'Superman's' pitch-perfect casting of David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult, the film can't rise above its overstuffed plot.

Indiewire

quote:

@davidehrlich

James Gunn's Superman is a severe overcorrection from the biblical seriousness of the Zack Snyder movies. cast is fantastic (Brosnahan MVP), but the whole thing is *way* too silly for its own good. a step down from Gunn's previous cape stuff.

quote:

@Variety

James Gunn’s “Superman” is a loopy, emotional reboot that reimagines the Man of Steel as vulnerable and humane. David Corenswet shines, Nicholas Hoult’s Luthor is chilling, and the film’s chaos is both its strength and its weakness.

Toronto Star

quote:

Peter Howell

Writer-director Gunn is brilliant at conjuring spectacle and creating alien realms... What Gunn is not so great at is storytelling. “Superman” is all over the place, not just geographically but also narratively.

quote:

Richard Roeper

"Superman" is an energetic but overstuffed and scattershot reboot, with fine performances, overly familiar action sequences, and mildly amusing humor. It makes for an entertaining popcorn movie. Nothing more, nothing less

Silly seems like the word I'm seeing a lot. Basically Gunn tried to make Superman a GoTG movie

Yep, that's what it seems like and obviously not surprising

Much of what they are saying reminds me of Guardians 3. The narrative, tone, and character motivations were kind of all over the place.

So many threads got rushed towards the end

Wow Dan Murell gave it a "not a fan" rating. He basically said the plot is not good and character development is non existent

I’ve been a fan of Guardians, Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and Creature Commandos so I’m pretty sure I’ll like this.

Happy to see mostly good reactions though
