Eh, everyone is entirely self interested here. shiv wants the people she has access with to win and same with Roman.

I know that the news organizations take seriously how and when they call an election, but would it be that big of a deal if three months from Election Day the courts ruled to question or switch the outcome, for the organization itself? Does anyone remember which ones called it for Gore in 2000?
Ya, the episode touched on two things:
1) the credibility of the news organization
2) the benefit of backing the right horse.
I agree that considering "bad calls" (1) is usually something people forget about.
This episode was really about #2 and the deal. If Jimenez pulls it out later, ATN can still get royally screwed.

I’m thinking he was referring to him trying to make a deal with Nate and Jimenez but they weren’t being receptive. He even tried to feel them out in the previous episode.

Then he couldn't even make a deal to go see his kids

I may be forgetting something but how did we get to the point where Mencken is this supposed monster? I vaguely remember the episode where all the potential candidates were at a fundraiser and the Roy’s chatted with them but I don’t remember anything truly overt, it’s been a few years. Shiv was acting like they elected the REAL hitler last night.

Lol at Reddit and Twitter saying "at least shiv cared about who would run the country
She only cares about whoever wins will be best for her since she was outed to her brothers for being a traitor.

Shiv’s hypocritical and full of a billion other flaws but she was the one person who understood the actual repercussions of someone like Mencken. It was a bit nauseating to see how the boys mocked her in that moment.

Hes a Republican so the writers made him a monster
BTW, this episode was the most annoying Shiv has been in the entire series and that is saying something. She was hysterical and annoying. I was hoping for more fireworks from her brothers when they found out she was trying to screw them. I feel like the writers didn't do enough to make that as explosive as it should be.

Which is a sure fire sign the next episode will be the downfall of Roman.

She was absolutely the stereotypical hysterical white liberal female . Saying like it’s the end of the country ! And pouting when it wasn’t going her way.
I also thought it was the most insufferable she’d been all series.

Greg giving Shiv the look after she goes off on him earlier in the episode is a top 5 moment of the show for me.

All any of the kids really care about is who gets into power that can stop or support the GoJo deal. That’s it.
Roman has typically not cared about politics (honestly, his Dad didn’t either) but cares that his relationship with Menken can be parlayed into the king of the company.
Kendall is conflicted but at the same time only cares to a greater degree about the deal.
Shiv tries to play up the whole “he’s a Nazi” (and he may be, I don’t know) but she was really more concerned with her connection to Gil and Co. that would give her pull and support the Mattson deal.
People can complain about the politics of last night but it wasn’t really about the politics. Nobody in that room truly gives a shite about Democrats versus Republicans.
It was about power.

They’re pushing the evolution in Roman trying to be his perception of his Dad. He’s trying to emulate what he thinks his Dad would have done. That’s been present for awhile, even without the election angle.
And they made Shiv look like the weakest person in the room as a Democrat. If you’re going to throw out that accusation, you should probably recognize the whole picture.

Funny see the actor as Menken here and the DA in Perry Mason. Dude’s got some decent range.
He was also Mitch's boss in Modern Family for a bunch of episodes. He's a good actor.

No not really. Shiv was Shiv

Oh shut up. All I did was answer a question someone asked.
You are so pretentious these days it's annoying AF. You think you are the smartest person in every thread with your therapist degree. You are as insuferable as Shiv.

Somewhat yes. But they repeatedly talked about how bad it was for america as well. The actress who played shiv even talked about how this was her altruistic side and even though it was convenient for her to support Jiminez she was still supporting who was good for democracy.
I just can’t remember what Mencken said that made him seem like a supposed fascist.

Holy projection, Batman.
I’ve had no issues discussing stuff in this thread with folks. Go gargle a bag of dicks if you can’t handle having a discussion.

No, it's just that no one has ever told you how insufferable you have become. I am. Now go put on your therapy hat and think of how to overcome that.

You’re just big mad (for some weird, insecure reason) that I pointed out this show treats politics as a vessel for power and not to pick a side.
Calling someone insufferable because I have a differing opinion than you is fricking hilarious. Grow up, this isn’t the OT. We’re adults having a discussion here.

No, I truly think you are insufferable in every thread on every board you post in. You are annoying AF and think highly of your own opinion.
ETA: I am finished hijacking the thread. Apologies to everyone else.

Well, at least I’ve done something right today.

So it does have a little self-awareness. Bless your heart.
