What do you mean by local tv? News, sports, are just regular tv shows?

With FuboTV, you give them your zip code when you sign up and that determines the local channels you normally get.

That being said, when I go on vacation and log in to watch my cloud DVR, I have noticed that it changes to the local channels of where I am at the time.

You’ll get local news on YouTubeTV.

You won’t get the local sports channel that shows NBA and MLB games though.

We just started our Fubo 7 day trial last night. I'm impressed and not having TNT/TBS/A&E doesn't bother me. We have 1gb internet service and I'm going to run a stress test streaming 4K on 3 TVs and HD on the other 2. All for roughly $100 less than our Directv setup. Is there something I'm missing?

I've been experimenting with it a bit as well. Your RSNs are locked to your home but locals are where your IP is located. Using a VPN I was able to get locals from every city my VPN has servers located. I'll be interested to see if I can still move around the locals as easily during the NFL season.

Roku has a ton of local shows.

After NHL playoffs are over, I'm probably cutting youtubetv until football season.

I will add HBO max and lots of free channels on roku and don't expect to miss anything until it comes time for kickoff in august.

You're missing out on paying DTV a bunch of money for no reason.

But seriously, maintaining satellites in orbit is expensive — they don't care anymore if they lose you as a terrestrial dish customer, because they're (slowly) abandoning that legacy technology anyway.

Much easier for them to not have to deal with dishes, boxes, service technicians, and all that related infrastructure. They'll eventually transition to just another over-the-internet service like everyone else.

Might as well skip the hassle, save money now, and move to streaming like you're already doing.

Use an IPTV service. There’s a post stickied on the tech board. I’ve used one for years, 25 bucks, everything.

That's about what I thought but had a smidge of a concern of it being "too good to be true". We got it back in 2006 when we decided it would be cheaper to just go with Sunday Ticket than waste money at a bar every week. They've gone downhill with customer service since Murdoch traded his interest in it for Liberty's European interests. Even then if you read the right msg boards you knew how to play Retentions into an almost perpetual new customer deal (including free ST). The big attitude change came from AT&T's corporate culture after they bought it from Liberty. I can't imagine the long rumored merge with Dish will improve things either. Both are hemorrhaging customers.

Our setup was refreshed about 10 years ago and time has not been kind to the LNBs and coax. As crazy as it sounds, the final nudge was one specific transponder going out which meant AFL football on FS2 was only available in SD.

I read today that Comcast is all for cord cutting...as long as they're the ones providing the internet. ESPN has even broken down and are going to be offering their channels direct to consumer. I'm sure some of this is popping up in my news feed because of researching cord cutting but it's still fascinating. We're loving sampling the channels we didn't have.
