Since I asked about the nuns, been doing some reading online. Apparently the government established a bunch of boarding schools and took kids away from their tribes. The different denominations ran them and could get pretty brutal.
happened in Canada as well, I think they found a burial site at a former residential school a few years ago

This has been mostly disproven.

Not saying there are not any graves of Native American children but the mass graves is mostly believed to be false outrage based on nothing concrete.

That shite was pretty horrific. We really did some awful things to the Indians.

Taylor Sheridan shows are not documentaries.

But from what my Cajun PawPaw told me, the nuns were pretty brutal. He spoke French only until he went to school which was a Catholic school in Mansura. The nuns forbid French and insisted on English only.

He said they would beat your arse if you spoke any French, even on the playground. In general he said they were pretty rough.

Yes, I’m sure it was nothing like what Sheridan portrays, but I’m just saying there’s some truth there.

Yeah My Paw Paw always got in trouble speaking Cajun French in school and would get spanked or his hand slapped but nothing to do the magnitude of the nuns

It's an old western tv show

Those Indian schools really did exist and what happened at them is not far from what is being portrayed in Yellowstone 1923. Their purpose was to educate and assimilate Indian children. What happened too often is that the Indian was beaten out of those kids. Below is a link to an article from the Sioux Falls Argus Leader about Indian Schools in South Dakota and their history, if you want to go down a mini worm hole and learn more. You may be surprised to find that a few of these schools are still open.

The whole ghost ship thing came across as totally implausible to me.

So they pass close by this drifting ghost ship; ok, no biggie. But then the ghost ship, at some point, turns around and makes enough speed to not only catch up to them but also generate enough wake to capsize the other boat. GTFO. Weak writing.

True dat. Maybe it's the ghost ship that navigated the NW passage.

shite, I am only 46 and went to a Catholic school with nuns. The second grade teacher kept a car antenna in her classroom and and if you were bad she would make you open your hand and hold it out and she would whip the shite out of it with the antenna.

so 1% of the show you didn't like and you call it weak writing. You sound like an employed tv critic and not someone who enjoys a great show after a long day of work to finish the night.

I liked 1923 and am looking forward to season 2, I liked 1888 much more.

When I referred to weak writing, I was referring to that scene specifically, not the whole series. That's my main critique of Sheridan; sometimes, he just mails it in like in the entire 2nd half of Yellowstone season 5.

Yeah I think we can all agree on Yellowstone sucking from season 4-5. That's what happens when you try and milk a show for all its worth. Yellowstone isn't the first and won't be the last.

Season 2 of 1923 would be a huge hit if every episode was comprised of Spencer railing Alexandria for an hour.
