This was pretty good tv. First season did a good job of building chemistry between mulder and scully. Its great seeing her more pessimistic about things fox believes.

I've thought about getting into this series since I never watched it when it aired, but man there are just so many episodes that it always feels overbearing and I choose something else. I feel like I'd enjoy a lot of it though.

You got to remember that it was on fox back in the day with commercials. You cut them out and episodes really fly by.

Also in the pilot it was really interesting hearing scully describe mulder before they even met. I didnt remember this but apparently he was gifted in profiles for criminals. Then became known as "spooky"

Started watching them again this week myself. The NASA s1 episode is peak 90s hot garbage

But for the most part, the show has really aged well imo.

Somebody made a list on Reddit a few years back that outlines what episodes to watch that basically follows the mythology of the show. It does a good job of weeding out the "monster of the week" episodes that have little to no influence on the overall plot of the show. The wife and I followed this a couple years back and knocked out several seasons fairly quickly until ultimately we abandoned it for other shows. I'd definitely recommend it.

Who the hell weeds out the Monster of the Week episodes and watched only the Myth-arc episodes?

Some of the stand alone episodes are the best.

Detour
Home
Clyde Bruckman
Fluke
Jersey Devil
DPO
The one with the lake monster in Georgia big blue

MOTW was the whole damn reason I enjoyed watching it.

Who the frick wants to watch X-Files but not see "Squeeze" or "Tooms" or "Darkness Falls" or "Home" and get the bejessus scared out of them?

I spent 10 years scared of the woods as a kid because of "Darkness Falls".

Maybe my top SciFi series of all time. Watched this religiously in college and we wouldn't go anywhere on Friday nights until after it was over. I wish Netflix or Prime would grab it.

Yep.

One of my grandmas lived holed up in a cabin that was a dirt road off a dirt road type deal. No streetlights or anything, so any time we left her house at night and had to drive through pitch black woods as a kid I was sweating bullets.

That list include the best MOTW episodes as well so it’s not just mythology episodes

I felt the same but decided to give it a shot when it was on Netflix. After only a few episodes I was hooked and couldn’t wait for the next. Totally worth it

THIS

many of the monster of the week episodes are the best ones in the series.

I'd also argue that they are all necessary b/c of the development of the relationships between the characters on the show. Even in mediocre monster episodes you can get some really great Scully/Mulder/Skinner/Lone Gunman etc moments.

LOL why would you skip out the Monster of the Week episodes? I mean the Alien mythology storyline is great and all BUT the monster of the week episodes is what the series is remembered for. It's what made the show a pop cultural phenomenon.

Sweet!

I watched a few episodes back in the day but wasn't a dedicated follower. Just finished The Expanse, and was looking for my next series.
