I'm thinking that either Palpatine was thinking of replacing Vader and had another apprentice in the wings (which Sith Lords have done many times in the past) or Vader was thinking that it was close to his time to take over as Master and had an apprentice lined up. That apprentice (either Palpatine's or Vader's) became the Master when they both died unexpectedly. Now he has taken on Kylo Ren as apprentice to carry on the Rule of Two.
My impression is that Snoke is something much older. I think others have the same feeling, and that's why a lot of people think he is Plageius.
Regardless, I like all of the unsanswered questions created by this movie. While I don't like having to wait two or more years to answer some of them, it's really fun to speculate on everything.
Kudos to Abrams for making a movie that not only played with our feelings of nostalgia, but also created a new sense of wonder.

Does anyone know if that was Ren's robe that Han picks up off the floor at Starkiller Base? Shortly afterwards they show Ren without it. If it was Ren then why did he just drop it on the floor.
That was Han's jacket. He took it off earlier and dropped it there.

Maybe the man is obsessed with his grandfather? Perhaps he knows the truth about Vader's sudden turn in the end but wants to remember him for the evil Sith lord he was for the many years before that moment in time? There could be a number of possibilities and I am sure we are going to get answers in the following two films.
Ren, in his early training as he is now, is the opposite of Anakin. Anakin tried to be good but the darkside kept pulling at him and eventually he succumbed. Ren on the other hand is trying desperately to be bad, but the light side keeps pulling at him. He is teetering back and forth.
Although Ren Killing Snoke I think is too easy of a way out. Too much overlap of the original trilogy with a relived Vader killing Palpatine scenario.
What if Luke Kills Snoke, Rey kills Luke, Ren kills Rey, and then kills himself.
Or Rey kills Snoke, then kills Luke. She turns to offer an alliance with Ren, and Ren kills her, then dies from his battle wounds.

Speaking of dumb moments, How do you aim a planets on the y axis or better yet on the x-y axis. Timeliness on the x axis would be an additional issue.

Though not explained, the Starkiller had to move to another system since they just used up the sun where they were. If the FO could figure that out, I'm sure they're okay with rotating the planet to set up the next target.
Speaking of Starkiller, How cool was it to see warm weather at the Nazi rally, then gradually getting colder as the sun was absorbed. I missed that on first viewing.

I really do not understand how Rey did not need a jacket during her duel especially considering she is not used to cold weather. Han needed one during the day when it was warmer but she was fine in the dark.
Also, I can see whats left of the New Republic installing Leia as Chancellor after regretting not taking the Resistance seriously.

Didn't read all 127 pages... it seemed to me Ren has feelings beyond just wanting to be a teacher to Rey... Why he took off the costume and not pressing Rey further...
Then the feelings toward Ren with Rey may be mutual with her kissing Finn on forehead instead of lips....
I can see the love interest being the conflict for light/ darkness instead of father/ son conflict like before

I would love to see a love interest angle added to Ren and Rey. Unfortunately, I think they are probably cousins.

Did his light saber get destroyed in the fight?
Second time I saw movie it seems like it falls to the ground and Rey slices the handle of his saber destroying it.

Yes, it appears his light broadsword was destroyed.

I didn't love the movie. It was fine but the Han/Leia stuff seemed so forced. The "force" stuff all seemed weird: how is this chick who didn't even know what the force was in the first hour controlling people's minds and pulling a lightsaber with mind power. Luke couldn't do that after training with Obi-Wan and didn't control minds til after Yoda
