One thing I've been toying with about Rey's inexplicable ability to do all these things she has no apparent training for. Multiple times when she was asked how she did something, she basically responded with an "i don't know, it just sort of happened" response. Especially with the Jedi Mind Trick she said she had no idea how she got free and Finn wouldn't even believe it if she told him. That part made me believe that she had no idea what a jedi mind trick was either, until it happened (so maybe her memory was wiped or whatever, but lets assume that isn't the case). What if Luke has found a way, through the Force, to truly act through another person? Obi Wan was always there to guide him, but couldn't ever physically help him. What if it is revealed that all the things she was able to do was because Luke was helping/doing them through her? Could be a cool twist i guess.

Luke would not have had that look of surprise when he saw her if he had been guiding. I still see the mind trick as a massive flaw.

I think the reason for the mind trick was fairly obvious.
Her first full introduction to the force is Ren going into her mind. So he introduced her to the feeling. She used that experience to know what entering someone's head felt like.
I think Luke planted the idea of forcing him to release her though, or Obi-Wan's force ghost.

Yea, if I don't see some sort of force ghost, I'll be upset

I wonder what happened to the skin on Luke's robot hand. Why's it gone?

I just assumed that kind of thing needed maintenance, and he's in a place where that cannot be done.

Yea, what's the shelf life of that spray on skin?

I watched a deleted scene from VI yesterday. Sand storm scene right before he goes back to Yoda. Some of the skin was peeling back on the top of his hand.

Yep, that blaster shot did that. There was another point where he sprayed some stuff on it to cover it up, iirc.

Rey is clearly a padawan from Luke's academy that somehow escaped the Knights of Ren and had her memory wiped.
I thought Adam Driver was a good casting choice. He's supposed to look like an angsty emotionally stunted kid and he pulls it off. The helmet is his attempt to imitate Vader. He's going to come back with a sweet scar and hopefully they shave his head and give him some facial hair for a more grizzled look.

Don't worry bra. Disney gonna definitely capitalize on the chance to stick yoda in there so they can sell the shite out of merchandise..

Interesting details from the script
quote:
The screenplay also makes it clear that Luke is well aware of who Rey is, saying Skywalker "doesn’t need to ask her who she is, or what she is doing here."
quote:
The script also emphasizes the fear felt within Ren during his battle with Rey, noting Ridley's character nearly killed him before she realized she was standing "on a greater edge than even the cliff — the edge of the dark side." As such, it's clear Rey also feels the pull of the dark side. In fact, the novelization says she hears an "amorphous" voice telling her kill Ren, which, according to the audio book, appears to be Supreme Leader Snoke.

I tried to tell everyone her control and power was accelerated because of the dark side, but nooooooooo.
Also, Luke makes it kind of obvious he recognizes her. Good acting on Hammil's part. So many different emotions shown by simple, tiny changes in his expression.

I always thought he could be a good actor away from Lucas. He's a great voice actor.

Would that be stuff that would make sense to at least somewhat portray to the audience??

I mean like the voice telling her to kill Ren. I definitely saw some anger, but that adds a whole new level to it

I watched it again last night and it was honestly just "meh." There's a lot of things I like about the film, but also so much that is just lame.

I don't disagree there are some things that suck, but it's a fun film, just like the OT.
The suck level isn't high enough to make it lose the fun factor.
I think the biggest problem is that it was rushed. They left too much on the editing room floor. Never really got a chance to breathe after Rey found BB-8.
