While true I just don't think he is a sith.

No proof right now one way or the other.

Maz's line about the dark side taking many forms and using sith in past tense makes me think this. Could be wrong

I don't think he's a Sith lord.

I think he's a sith. It's the main plot of the entire SW story... light vs dark/Jedi vs Sith

I'm thinking that either Palpatine was thinking of replacing Vader and had another apprentice in the wings (which Sith Lords have done many times in the past) or Vader was thinking that it was close to his time to take over as Master and had an apprentice lined up. That apprentice (either Palpatine's or Vader's) became the Master when they both died unexpectedly. Now he has taken on Kylo Ren as apprentice to carry on the Rule of Two.

For you guys thinking he's not a Sith what/who do you think he is? I'm curious as to other theories. I don't recall anyone ever describing "other forms" of the dark side.

Maybe something we haven't been introduced to yet. JJ said kylo wasn't a sith.

Also I think snoke is supposed to be super old.

So don't think he was a secret apprentice to palps

Not sure yet. I've toyed with the idea that he is a version of Palptaine, but it doesn't really hold up right now. Plageuis did teach him everything he knew, so maybe he found a way to do it (i mean he was going to teach Anakin how to keep Padme from dying). However, this theory isn't any more plausible than the current one.

Hard to say. Plageuis is as good a guess as any right now, though, as we frankly just don't know much.

JJ also said Snoke is a new character to the universe. Now, does that mean his entire character is new or just his identity as "Snoke" is new? Only time will tell.

That one about the redemption of Anakin was interesting.

I think the Sith died out with Palpatine and Vader. I like the idea of their not being a light or dark side of the force. It just depends on who is using it. I don't have a name for what Snoke might be, but he could be someone that has just been in the shadows for a long time, watching things play out. With the Sith destroyed and just an aging Luke left, he feels his time is now. He's recruited the top young force user that he knew about. I'm interested to see if the rest of this Knights of Ren belong to him as well.

This idea I can't stand. It completely destroys the long held position that you can be seduced by the Dark Side of the force. Yes, some are more susceptible than others, but the dark and light side of the force call to each force user (Ren even mentioned this)

It's basically called "having a conscience".

There is definitely a light and a dark side

Maz uses the light side of the force and isn't a jedi

I think it is ok for others to use the dark side and not be sith

Not to mention all that "you don't understand the power of the dark side" stuff. It takes hold of everyone that enters into it.

It also completely throws out the whole bringing balance to the force thing...

I don't know if she actually uses it per say, but she is definitely knowledgeable of it. I think she can understand it. she is somewhere in between being force sensitive and not.

Yea, all of that

With those deleted scenes that were posted (may be in the Snoke thread), it will be interesting to see where they take Snoke. He is very old and witnessed everything that went down from the previous 6 movies. He couldn't have been completely absent from it all, I mean somehow his face caved in on one side and seemed to be horribly burnt

Well, you wouldn't understand what you can do until you are motivated by hate, fear, anger, etc.
