Star Wars Question: Why Didn't Vader go to Yavin 4?

Vader obviously knew that the rebel base was on Yavin 4 during Ep 4. Once the death star was destroyed, he had to go somewhere quick in the Tie since it was not equipped with a hyper drive. Why didn't he just go to Yavin 4 and kill everyone there? Or at least all the important people.

Because he'd get himself killed. Pretty sure they'd have enough anti-spacecraft guns to take him out well before he made it to the base.

he could have gotten on the moon relatively undetected.

And what makes you say that? They had a system that could detect them in Empire, so I see no reason why Vader would specifically be able to go undetected.

I said relatively undetected. Yea sure they could have seen his ship on radar or whatever they use, but once he's on the ground, he's going to be able to defend himself.

I don't think they're going to be asking him any questions once they see Vader's ship coming at them directly. They'll just shoot it down regardless.

He won't be able to get that close to the base and would have to park miles away from it, by which point they'll be carpet bombing the jungles. I just really don't think it was worth the risk for Vader.

This is Vader we are talking about. Not some second yr tie pilot.

The man is not invincible or a fan of fire. He'd be killed before he reached the ground if he went directly for the base, and then killed by fire bombings if he decided to park miles away, which even if he got through, should give the Alliance plenty of time to flee the base. It just made no sense for him to go there without significant backup.

I think he could have done it. But he didn't, so it doesn't matter

Vader's TIE is equipped with a hyperdrive per the PC Fighter simulation games of the 90's

unlike most TIE models, the TIE Advanced x1 was equipped with both a hyperdrive and a deflector shield generator and even a much more effective solar ionization reactor and stronger hull[2].

I sit corrected. My bad. I didn't think any of the Tie's had a HD.

Is it sad I remembered that fact from a PC game that has to be 20 years old?

Where did you get that info you quoted?

If Vader could just go in and wipe out the rebel base with no assistance, what did they need the Death Star for? No way he could do that.

Well they didn't get much use out of the two that they had, so why not?
