I figured I’d give it a few days to sink in for everyone.

I’m just as disappointed as you all. My mom wants me to go with her for her birthday and I’m having a hard time to bring myself to view it again.

My parents want to see it during Christmas. I've told them to go ahead and watch it tomorrow so I don't have to.

To dig the dagger a little further, the informant I have is saying Trevorrow was taken off of IX because he had many disagreements with story of XIII and Kathleen running the franchise. Hopefully the fan reaction and money upset the Mouse and he steps in and rights the ship for IX.

Seeing Kathleen Kennedy step down soon would be a major step in that direction though there had been no indication that may happen thus far.

And to elaborate a little further, while I do have SW “friends” in NZ, Finland, etc... My real information comes from a guy in London whom is employed at a certain studio.

Regardless, I'm very glad Trevorrow is off the franchise. Just watch this video. You would have breathed a sigh of relief if this abortion hadn't already been laid upon us: Jurassic World, Jurassic Values

Another melt - if hyperspace is now the most powerful weapon why didn’t they evacuate a medical ship (like what happened in the movie) then turn it around an hyperspace kamikaze it through the fleet at the very beginning of the movie?

Yeah, even in the theater I was thinking "Well this is cool.... but why the hell didn't they just load a big ship up with some droids and then aim it at the center of the Death Star going at light speed in the original if this was a possibility? Am I supposed to believe in a universe of 500 quadrillion people/aliens that this is the first time that had ever been tried in a desperate situation? What a load of shite."

Visually, that scene was nice; story wise I’m on board with you all.

Visually it was an amazing scene, maybe the best of the film, its timing within the story was pretty terrible.

Well, we know they knew about it back in the original Star Wars because Han told Luke that they couldn't just jump to lightspeed without doing calculations to make sure they didn't hit something en route.

The Emperor, at least, had to have been curious what would happen if he accelerated something to hyperspace and tossed it at some random ship, space station or planet.

This is exactly why Han’s comments about making the Kessil run in less than 12 parsecs makes sense. He wasn’t talking about the falcons top end speed, hyperspace is hyperspace, he was referencing the navigation cpus and flight path the ship was able to pull off.

I’m sure Palpatine was well aware of what would happen. He just believed the Imperial Forces were far too powerful to have to stoop to kamakazi tactics.

Reposting this from another thread on here:

Ratatouille's catchphrase "Anyone Can Cook" which means "Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere". Reys parents didn't have to be someone huge.

I actually agree with you. But great artists and great cooks had to practice and perfect their art for years.

It's just another thing that Rian Johnson fricking ruined. Instead of her finding Luke and undergoing meaningful character building and training. She finds Luke and then nothing happens.

It would've been a great set up:

Ren is raw talent and power and ego
Rey is the underdog who wins because of dedication and training and sacrifice

There you go. Classic power struggle nature vs nurture.

My biggest problem with her character in these movies is Rey didn't earn anything she has. The classic come from nothing hero archetype usually goes through a period of great practice or struggle or defeat or learning.

She hasn't bled for her beliefs. She hasn't spent time training. She hasn't dedicated herself to her mastery. She was just given magical super powers with no limit and no match.

She's never lost a fight or even had a conflicting decision. She's never faced a consequence or overcome a great trial we weren't sure about.

We're just supposed to take it at face value that this random slave girl with no connection to anything else ever in the Star Wars ethos who has no training and no practice is the most powerful force user ever? It's just annoying and shitty story telling.

That's the problem. The characters and plot lines in this movie are indefensible from a basic writing prospective. Forget star wars. Look at the way you craft a good story since the dawn of time. From the Iliad and the Odyssey to the Canterbury Tales to Shakespeare to the Golden age of film. You can't just throw basic story and character principles out the window and expect the fricking thing to work.

The second movie in a trilogy is supposed to be The Great Humbling for the hero, where he or she finds out that not only is there a bigger picture but while one day he or she may be King or Queen Top Dog, that day isn't here yet.

You can end that on an optimistic note like Empire, you can end it on a very foreboding one like Attack of the Clones or you can end it as a mixture of the two like in the Matrix Reloaded but it's necessary in order to set the finale up.

Bypassing that leaves in a situation where the final episode really doesn't have any stakes, barring something truly outside of the box that we know Disney doesn't have the balls to do, like having Kylo revert to the light...and having Rey succumb to the dark and get killed by the reborn Ben Solo.

We already know Rey is going to win, just like we knew Luke would. The difference will be the lack of discovery. Rey is already more powerful than Kylo and is 2-0 against him so, barring some story cheat, she's simply destined to kick his arse again when they meet in Episode IX.

Knowing that, the writers are going to throw some dumbass "twist" like bringing Snoke back or revealing Hux as the true puppeteer of all of this bullshite.

Yep. Why even go see the third movie? They didn't leave the audience with any reason to give a shite about anything.

Just got back from seeing it.

Other than it being too long and disjointed, I enjoyed it. Ships went zoom, shite went bang, it had laser sword fights.

Of course, after 4.5 consecutive films of the "main saga" all ranging between shite and mediocre, I've given up any expectation of these things being anything more than a cash grab and excuse to sell merch.

TFA had the potential to correct that, but it simply decided to set up a rehash of the OT rather than strike out in a novel direction.
