The Last Chushingura

This is a great movie...but not your typical Samurai movie. Just rewarding.

Second.

Also:

harakiri - Fantastic film. Number 2 samurai film for me right behind Seven Samurai

Versus - Samurais, zombies, vampires, and Yakuzas. Pure cult.

Azumi - Female samurai assasin. really fun movie. Sequel is good as well, but not on par.

Samurai Rebellion - Awesome. Synopsis: The mother of a feudal lord's only heir is kidnapped away from her husband by the lord. The husband and his samurai father must decide whether to accept the unjust decision, or risk death to get her back.

Sword of the Beast - Have heard good things. I haven't checked it out yet though.

I love this genre. I try to watch as many Samurai movies as I can get my hands on.

13 Samurai was a great movie. I sort of thought the thief with the broken heart was a goner though.

The Japanese version was actually better at portraying him as the mountain spirit/demon that you are supposed to see him as. The remove a lot for the American release.

OOPS... Wasn't trying for that.

Guess I saw the American release. Though I did suspect he was a little "spiritual" after the ending. Started to review the plot after I watched it and was leaning toward something like that. But he was funny and the movie was solid.

Yea, I decided to look up the name of the girl he liked, Upashi, and I found a site that detailed all the scenes that they cut.

There are some things that you have to really pay attention to notice. For example, that one scene where you see her in the river and she is eating something red. That is supposed to be afterbirth, which apparently is a quality of female demons in eastern culture.

There is also a scene where he has sex with every woman in the village, nearly killing some of them. That scene ends up with him having sex with the male elder.

Sometimes it isn't a bad thing that they cut scenes.

Wow...

One of those times when you wished you should have stopped at just wondering "what if".

I thought that there were too many little hints during the movie that he was more than just a thief. Dude is killing Samurai and soldiers with what looks like a very large tree limb. That was crazy.

Has anybody seen "13 assassins" yet? I keep seeing the previews and was wondering if it's as good as it looks..

I read up on this one because it got killer reviews. But it wasn't for me for some reason. I started it at like 11:00 at night which was probably a bad idea because it put me to sleep. Lit tra ly

When you watch black and white, do it right though. Cut the lights off, don't watch it light shining on it. Makes it look so much better.
