Superman is arguably less of a comic book creation than an adaptation of pre-existing Superman myths and children's fantasies. His character and powers are the stuff of religion.

He is inarguably the most universal superhero in the world for large numbers of people who never read comic books

Superman would be the best superhero if we were just honest about what utter hell his life would be here on Earth. Superman is one of very few purely benevolent superheroes whose powers can legitimately be described as godlike; Superman, Clark Kent, and Kal-El is a god.

A god forced to live amongst humans in a world made of fragile cardboard to him that could instantly fall apart around him, and live amongst people who can never come close to comprehending what he is, how much power he has and how he struggles to control that power and use it wisely.

A lot of aspects of his life is a struggle. The mere fact of living on Earth changes everything about his biology - dude can't even shave with normal razors or get drunk at all like a normal adult male would have no problem doing or even have sex with a normal woman because he could kill her.

The lengths he has to go to just to fit into human society are extraordinary. Maddening, almost. For example: It's canon that "Clark Kent" is two inches shorter than Superman. He compresses his own spine to aid his secret identity.

I don't care HOW nice and heartwarming that old Kansas couple can be, there's only so far a goodoleboy attitude will get you before you go postal and the fact that Superman doesn't is a testament to his character and and cements the fact that he's the greatest hero ever.

Batman is the GOAT superhero.

Batman has said that if Superman really wanted to kill him, he would have very little to no problems at all doing so and no amount of dossiers and over preparation could stop Clark.

As shitty as a filmmaker Zack Snyder and his version of Superman is, even he illustrated that point perfectly in BvS as Superman held back in fighting to subdue Batman and get him to cooperate while Batman went balls to the wall to kill him.
