If they're going to re-boot the entire Mutant franchise, I guess she needs to have an altered and contemporary backstory.
It didn't sit well with me either, having yet another 'evil Wanda' story arc for a powerful yet misunderstood female character.
Lady cop was poorly done. I think Banner was shoe horned in there, and could have been done better. No J. Jonah Jameson or Daily Bugle. And I know it's in the comics, but evolving Spider Man felt like it had similar notes of the symbiont from Spider Man 3.

What’s funny is even before I saw the movie, even before it came out, when I heard it was going to be Jean Grey as the villain the first thing that came to mind was “they’ll never know what you sacrificed for them”
And it’s pretty much the same damn thing! What the garbage people in Department of Damage Control did to her sister isn’t a concern for every day citizens going about their business. Yet Jean straight out murders dozens of them without any consequence.

Yea, having Jean Grey be a cold blooded murder wasn’t a good idea and excusing it is even more idiotic. The Spider-Man stuff was really good, the 3rd act fell apart. Looked like the rewrote her into the movie and just forgot everything the villain did in the first half.

True but that’s dark phoenix stuff, this isn’t. She kills some poor old guy for no reason so it’s hard to sympathize with her especially when you realize she could’ve just mind hopped her way into wherever she wanted without all the terrorist nonsense. This was messily changed, that must be what Holland was talking about.

I give it a 9 out of 10 bc I am just tired of trying nitpick every little thing. It had a very good emotional touch to the story. Although Punisher did seem like he was just sort of thrown in the plot….. it worked.

You have mostly valid questions and kingbob did a good overall job in explaining this one in particular, however, to dig a little deeper....recall the first time he "turned into the monster", he threw Scorpion around and hurt a cop. When he decided that he wouldn't let the spider overcome Peter and vise versa during the hand fight, his first punch sent a guy flying up towards some metal sticking out. Peter webbed him prior to him hitting the metal, saving his life. The camera distinctly showed that shot. It was peter coming through the "monster" even though he had fully embraced the spider DNA turning him into something more.

You're also asking a teen/early 20 something person to be rational especially when the only person they had in their life this being her sister was taken away from her. Even their own mother hated them. Jean has had no adult or parental figure to guide her or her sister in the right direction. And she's not getting off free, her actions will absolutely have major consequences later on not just for her but any other mutants

She murdered an innocent old man for no reason. Walked him right into a big truck just to show Peter she could. Sorry she’s evil.

They’re probably setting up Dark and Dangerous X-Men and I think they’ve even alluded to it calling them “morally gray” or something like that. Can’t remember the exact quote.

Again, not perfect, I liked it less than No Way Home, but it was a solid watch. A bit too long for what little 'pay off' we got. MJ goes from 'withholding' because deep down she knows she really is meant for something else, but doesn't know what to 'Meh, I feel absolutely nothing for you Peter, sorry', to then introducing him to Ned, full on realizing that they'll be buds again, and that Peter will still be somewhat in her life. Even after she's basically given him a Dear Peter letter, but IRL.
I know, it's messy, but I guess that's the best they could come up with.

Akshually...
this is why I hate non comic book folks doing movies from comic books. Because there are all sorts of versions and variants out there, and movies don't have the luxury comics do by scribbling a few panels or pages to 'make up' any back story that's needed for that particular run.
They need to focus on one lore, one story line, and try to craft as good as they can for the on screen version.
There's no mention of an older sister in the original X Men movies, not that I recall. And while there WAS an older sister Sara in the comics, she wasn't a mutant. So yeah, this is mostly just fanfic with a heavy dose of 'authenticity' mixed in.
