If the replacement was the actor from the beginning, I don't think anyone would complain.
The issue is that the original actor set a standard for the character and was so good at communicating non verbally or with few words and it was impossible to replicate. I do agree that once the story unfolds a bit, the replacement finds his groove and delivers.

Yes but I never did get used to the replacement Spartacus. But still a good show. The early seasons are best.
